A Life in Questions

Very Interesting
Took a while to read, one that was always interesting but that at times I had something even more interesting to read. Debunks television journalism in a slightly wry way, Paxman displays a fondness for life in general, gratitude for the chances he got, and a love and forgiveness of a flawed father he never really understood.

Paxman's Challenge
I've listened to the first hour of this book and it is read in an interesting manner with interesting contect by Jeremy PaxmanI'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys University Challenge or any other of Jeremy's broadcasting accomplishments

A Glimpse of Paxman
Paxman can, and occasionally does, get things wrong, but he's clearly well aware of his own limitations and doesn't pretend to have worked out all the answers or be superior to anyone else, acknowledging his own lack of direct experience in many fields. He singles out some of those whose work and conclusions can better be relied upon. This restricted autobiography - which includes absolutely nothing about his own family life and thus a chunk of what helped make him what he is - is neverthless fascinating. Perhaps most telling are his accounts of the Today and University Challenge programs which made him a household name.

Well worth a read or listen, just don't try to do both.
I am not someone who would consider themselves a fan of anything (other than my football club). Jeremy Paxman always struck me as a bruiser - willing to fight the good fight (and sometimes not good, clean fight). What surprised me was that this reflection was both candid and self depricating. He may give out verbal hammerings but he is willing to take them too.Did this change my opinion of him? Yes, a little. Why only four stars - I bought the audio version too and expected them to sync but it doesn't seem possible. So this is a cricism of the product rather than the book.

It seemed at times rather like random jottings
Compared wit other recent Paxman books very disappointing. It seemed at times rather like random jottings, Not enough about the many interviews he conducted and the unseen background to them. After all he made his formidable reputation mainly because of his qiestions and the style he employed.

After reading this I came away with the impression that Jeremy Paxman is a generous and humane individual and nothing like the 'hardman' image he portrays on TV. What clinched it for me was seeing him on Room 101 where he condemned David Cameron for being the worst Prime Minister in living memory. I couldn't have put it better myself (and I vote Conservative!)

Jeremy at his Acerbic Best
This is Jeremy Paxman at his acerbic best.A biography from his early days through to when he left Newsnight. The press made much of his father when the book came out - but the discipline is only covered over one or two pages, and is no different from what a lot of people brought up in the 50s/60s experienced. I didn't get the impression that Jeremy was criticising his father either. If you are looking for Jeremy to bad-mouth politicians, celebrities etc - you will be disappointed. He is very kind about people - in general. His stories about the places he reported from over the years were really interesting - particularly his time in Northern Ireland where he spent several years. One very small disappointment - he has very high praise for Eddie Mair of Radio 4's PM!

so enjoyed this very much
Big fan of Paxo, so enjoyed this very much. An insight into his life and of course the life of a presenter. The latter part of the book comprises his responses to FAQs he receives and he responds with great frankness and humour. Can also recommend another BBC presenter's book. A great read
Excellent book. Funny and informative. The Dizzee Rascal chapter had me in stitches.

Three Stars
Interesting but I expected better from Jeremy Paxman, a few random tangents and rants about newsreaders.

A worthwhile read
A worthwhile and enjoyable read. Intimate without losing a sense of context. The earlier part of the book is more of a narrative of his upbringing while the rest of it is more of...
