Actually has displaylink and works without displayport or thunderbolt
Works exactly as expected (on day one, when I write this) from both USB A and USB C ports, with easy Windows driver download and installation (links and QR in manual). Crucially, this adaptor IS DISPLAYLINK certified so works even if your PC (like my Acer Swift 1 SF114-34) DOES NOT have DisplayPort, 'alternate display mode' or 'Thunderbolt' because it is doing this video processing itself (hence the bulk and price). (You need USB3.0 or higher, mine has 3.2) Beware Amazon's search will also show loads of cheap, slimmer adaptors that don't have the active displaylink chip in them (so they'd rely on PCs that do support DP/Thunderbolt, but wouldn't with mine), even if you search 'displaylink' , and those ads conveniently neglect to mention it. After tedious digging around into this one to find it does work, hopefully this will save you the pain (you're welcome...). Bought for £35, it's the cheapest single HDMI output I could find, dual ones are around £70. Product works well, finding and installing drivers for Windows PC was easy.

Simple and reliable way to add an extra monitor
Bought this USB to HDMI adapter to add an additional monitor to my setup and it worked exactly as expected. The installation was straightforward and the connection has been stable so far. It’s a simple solution for extending a display without needing to open up a PC or laptop. Overall a very useful adapter that does the job well.

DELIGHTED with this item
This was the ultimate "it just worked" - waiting for delivery for a while (Amazon messed up first delivery for some reason) with cables laid waiting for this adaptor. When it arrived, slotted it in, image in screen immediately, full quality, perfect. I also have a USB to DVI and USB to VGA, and this is the best by far. But still, all three working together at same time, total 6 monitors on system, all good!

stopped working after a while, so many wasted hours trying to fix
worked fine for a while, but became increasingly frustrating, resetting, unplugging, input not working, handshake to USB on Mac so hit and miss. Wasting so many hours just trying to get it to work and then one day it stopped completely. As someone else said if it were a £130 dongle you'd forgive, but for the price i expect this to work for many years.

The only HDMI-USB that works in Ubuntu 24.04
This is for Linux people: I have Ubuntu 24.04 and it works, it just needs a bit of configuring. Use synaptics website to download latest drivers. After 'messing' up previous configurations, this is what worked for me: - Uninstalled everything: sudo dkms remove evdi/1.14.7 --all # Replace 1.14.7 with your version if different (find version using $ plocate evdi) sudo apt purge evdi-dkms displaylink-driver sudo apt autoremove sudo apt update - Download latest driver and install it: sudo ./displaylink-driver-xxxx.run - Disabled UEFI Secure Boot from my BIOS (despite the security issue) Reboot and be happy with your 2nd or 3rd monitor in Linux.

Works on Linux with some tweaking
I have no experience using this on windows or mac, this is purely a Linux review. I bought this to add a second monitor to my laptop running Manjaro which has only 1 HDMI out. Its working pretty well and i'm happy with it. It definitely uses a noticeable amount of CPU but if your CPU has enough horsepower its rarely an issue (I have a 10th gen i7). It doesn't work out of the box, the manufacturer provides no driver or support, however its using a Displaylink chip and these do have some support in Linux from DisplayLink themselves. I installed edvi and the displaylink driver from AUR. You also need to create an xorg conf file for it using modesetting, you can find examples online. Finally there was an issue I encountered with lightdm, where the load sequence was causing problems what were resolved by restarting lightdm - basically lightdm was loading before the displaylink module, and you need lightdm to load last, you can edit the displaylink.service to change the load from after to before the display-manager.service as a persistent fix.

Quality item
After moving to windows 11, my old USB to HDMI adapter would not work, and it was already a bit temperamental on Win 10! These adapters are so much better - they work out if the box with minimal setup, and have all the usual resolution options of a standard HDMI port. These are well worth paying a little extra for - dual large format monitors from a laptop :D

Works with Android! Minimal latency and 1080p!
Got a new Oppo Find X3 Neo and wanted to be able to play games (with minimal latency so wireless not an option) on a bigger screen... however found out it does not support direct USB-C to HDMI connection (MHL). I first tried a Miraplug adapter cable that works but quality is subpar and adds considerable delay. I then found about displaylink and this adapter and voila! Paired with a usb c to usb otg cable and I am now able to play games or watch videos on the big screen with no noticeable delay. Monitor states the input is 1080p 60Hz despite the phone being usb 2.1 and this product stating usb 3.0 required for this resolution. I believe this should work with any android where the Displaylink Presenter app can be installed. Only question is how long it will last but will revise review if any issue. At least for now it has solved my problem and I highly recommend it!
