The Coven: Coven of Bones, Book 1

Harper L Woods captures my heart again.
Really, closer to 4.5 stars. Are there going to be spoilers in this? Honestly, idk. Maybe. Proceed with caution. I won’t give the big cliffhanger reveal at the end, at any rate. You know when you have those books that you immediately jive with? Before I was even halfway through this book, I preordered a copy of its sequel from Amazon. I also had already recommended it to a friend or two.Willow Green’s mother just died, leaving her and her younger brother, Ash, on their own. Together they live a human existence. It’s all Ash has known. But with the death of their mother, the protection wards that have been hiding the family for the past twenty years or so come down, revealing Willow - a witch very much in her power - to a coven located in Crystal Hollow (a place mixed in, but warded from, Salem, Mass.).Willow’s mother, a legacy Green (a witch who deals with nature), faked her death years ago to escape the Coven. She was believed to be the last of her line. In order to protect Ash, Willow sends him to go live with his father when the beings known as Vessels (basically a golem with the soul of a demon), arrive at Willow’s door to offer her an exclusive invitation to Hollow’s Grove University. A school which has only just reopened its doors to the outside world after a massacre that happened 50 years ago.The Vessels and witches have a sort of tense relationship. The Vessels feed on blood but only witch blood can really sustain them. And the witches can’t really kill them without, essentially, unaliving themselves.Enter our morally (dark) grey MMC Alaric Grayson Thorne, a Vessel and the headmaster at the university. He’s an a**hole. He pushes boundaries. He’s manipulative and a liar. And we love to see it. He’s hiding secrets. He has his own agenda against the coven. And he’s prepared to use Willow by any means necessary to reach his goals.Meanwhile, Willow has secrets of her own. She’s not just a Green. From her father’s side, she’s also the last of the Hecate line, a lineage of witches who are more commonly known as necromancers and whose ancestor is none other than the first witch, Charlotte Hecate. In order for Willow to tap into the magic of that side of her, though, she needs to find the hidden bones of her ancestors.Willow’s aunt (her father’s sister) died in that massacre half a century ago and she’s been training her whole life to enact his revenge. But now it seems as if the massacre is beginning all over again.Utter. Freaking. Chaos. Ensues.I spent most of this story so caught up in the drama of what was happening that I didn’t really try to seek out who was behind the deaths. Nobody seems trustworthy except maybe Iban and Della (two other students). Allies turn on each other. Forbidden relationships are formed. And choices are made.I read this book in a day. I need book two immediately. Also, how tf are we going to be left on a bigger cliffhanger after the book two, first chapter bonus content than we were at the end of book one??? I’m dying. I need more.2.5 for 🌶️. (They talk a lot about doing the thing, but not much of the book is spent on the act.)

Great PNR with Romance Fantasy Feels and FABULOUS ENDING!
I finished reading 'The Coven,' Book 1 of Coven of Bones series by Harper L. Woods and it was GREAT 🤩! (I am just a regular reader and not affiliated the author! There are NO spoilers 🙌)This book is getting A LOT of attention lately, so thought I'd give it a shot! It's categorized as a Paranormal Romance, but I personally think it feels like a Romance Fantasy (Fantasy Romance/Romantasy) because of the writing style & worldbuilding. If you love the relationship between Darcy & Orion from ZA, this is going to be your jam! I did enjoy this book, but I gotta tell you... the last 18% of it was PHENOMINAL! I get why soooo many people are in love with this book! I literally cannot wait to read Book 2 (FYI you can read it in Kindle Vella before Book 2 drops!)Here's some key elements!💀 Paranormal Romance where it starts off in our modern world, but has worldbuilding regarding Witches & their governing structure/history (this made it feel like a Romance Fantasy to me)💀 F/M💀 Tropes: Academy, Alphahole, Enemies-to-Lovers, Forbidden Love, Secret Powers, Student/Teacher💀 Witches 🧙, Vampires 🧛♂️ & Demons 👹💀 More of a descriptive writing style with worldbuilding elements ✍️!💀 Two POVs in the 1st person: FMC and MMC💀 Starts off with the FMC's mother passing and the FMC trying to hide herself & her brother from the "Covenant" & Academy, but she knows she has a fated path she must walk...💀 FIERCE FMC with SECRET POWERS💀 Steamy 🔥 scenes with a controlling, snarky MMC💀 No Romantic HEA, as this is Book 1 of a series with the same characters💀 REALLY AMAZING ENDING & TWIST 🌪💀 It's on Amazon's bestsellers list for Paranormal Romance (#3)💀 FREE ON KU! So if you have KU, give it a shot for sure! It's also on Kindle Vella!💀 Author's FB Group The Forrest - Harper L. Woods & Adelaide Forrest💀 Fans of books with good/bad witches where the FMC is POWERFUL & GOOD, the main love interest is an enemy VAMPIRE, there's great STEAM (not too overpowering,) and where there's a REALLY, REALLY great TWISTY ending... may LOVE this!'The Coven,' Book 1 of Coven of Bones series by Harper L. Woods

Wonderful and all consuming read!
I absolutely LOVED this book from beginning to end! I knew I would enjoy it, but had no idea just how much!I had been putting off reading it since I knew it was going to end on a cliff hanger and the next book doesn't come out till August. I tried my hardest to pase myself, in hopes that MAYBE the wait wouldn't seem so long... Ha! No such luck. Not only have I preordered book 2, but because I'm dying to know what happens so bad that I've decided to follow on Kindlevella.I really REALLY enjoyed the MFC. It is very had to properly portray a bad ass yet vulnerable character. I have noticed, if it's not done properly then she just comes off as not only annoying but also kind of a bitch or manipulative.Willow is that PERFECT combination of a strong willed, physically and magically powerful bad ass witch...but with an overall awareness of how the difference between her upbringing and those around her, shaped her, made her different in the best way. Yet she possesses an understanding the the other witches are not to blame for their lack of awareness. She may have been hardened to achieve her goal, but is kind and compassionate towards the other witches. When she does show vulnerability or "weakness" it does not feel forced, like its just there for the storyline. It feels genuine and relatable.I also loved the MMC, Gray! I don't want to give too much away on him but I'm genuinely excited to know what happens next and hope to read more from his POV in boom 2.

This book has it all: Mystery, Witches, a badass FMC, and a hot villainous MMC!
THIS WAS AMAZING! Definitely one of my favorite reads this year!“If it is order that you value, then I will bring you nothing but chaos.”I haven't been this OBSESSED about a story in a while! I'm still stunned...THIS WORKED PERFECTLY FOR ME. How will I survive the wait til August?!The Romance was freaking amazing! Like, they SERVED Villain gets the Girl!Gray was deliciously morally black. You love to hate him and hate to love him. His possessive site was hot, and I knew I shouldn't fall for him, but I did it anyway...ups 😮💨I LOVED how refreshing Willow was. She is not the typical clueless FMC discovering that she is actually a witch and has to attend this new school. No - Willow is a badass and has ulterior motives. The magic concept was creepy, and I was so here for it! A huge pet peeve of mine is having witches in your story, only to have them use their powers sparely. Not here.It gets messy here!I also loved the concept of witches and vessels. Vessels are like a mix of vampires and demons, so be prepared for a lot of bit îng 😏The ending has me counting down the days for book 2 to come out. August seems so far away! What am I supposed to do with myself?HIGHLY recommend!🗂Genre: Dark Paranormal Romance📕Type: Duology, #1🏷Tropes:- Witches & Demôns/ Vampires- Headmaster x Student- Villainous MMC x Badass FMC- Enemies to Lovers, Forbidden- Dark Academia & Gothic vibes- Mystery, twists & Secrets- Revénge- 🌶️📖Format: 1st person, Dual POV

Outstanding!
I devoured this terrific book and, as always, am totally obsessed.Gray is magnificent.Morally gray is actually not a sufficient term, he is a devil through and through. And of course I absolutely love him for it.Willow is the witch of my heart. She gives everything and more of herself, but when her limits are crossed, the gates of hell open. Yes! Yes! Yes!Beat his ass, witchling!I'm really looking forward to the second book and can't wait to see what happens after the spectacular ending of the first book.

Rating : 5 ⭐Review : FJSJDJJSJXJJSJXBQJJWJS I AM SCREAMING !!! This was so freaking good and intense!!! How am I supposed to read another book after this one ?!?! When is the 23th of August !?!?Gray Thorne is viciousness incarnated....FOR REAL! He's perfect for the role 👌🏻! And Willow...I loved her character so much! I like this kind of FMC, so badass! Like the fight scene at the beginning of the book *chef's kiss*!Also the setting and vibe of the story gave me Night School, Gothikana and House of Night kinda feeling, with the witches, "vampires", school and murders elements of the book.Anyway the last sentence had me "screaming and kicking in the sheets" !!!

August 23 can’t come quick enough!
Kept this on my TBR for a while and I wish I had read it sooner!I’m always a sucker for an Enemies to Lovers book and may have stayed up all night reading this!Gray is my favourite sort of ancient immortal possessive MMC.The magic of the world is really interesting and different, but easy enough to wrap your head around. And I just love all the deceit, plots for revenge and hidden secrets between Gray and Willow! Always the best start to any relationship! The book does end on a cliffhanger and the next book is out in August, so now we patiently wait 😭
