Day One Review. I’ve got to McGyver this thing I think
I live in south Florida. As a result, I have a tremendous amount of foliage. It is wet. It is humid. As a result, we have these tiny flying insects the natives call “Mosquitos”. The insects survive by sucking the life blood out of all living things; dogs, cats, cows, even humans. Using the latest in environmentally friendly technology we have managed to attract an even larger number of these unfriendly creatures. Using a commercial fogger/sprayer we spray once per week with solutions contains various oils, potions, and all-natural solutions. Depending upon this week’s solution, our yard smalls like 1. The inside of a peppermint candy cane, or 2. A Eucalyptus grove in a South American rain forest, or 3. The sweaty portions of an elephant’s nether regions. As a result, we have switched to noxious poisons suggested by professional exterminators and YouTube alchemists. As a result we have seen a significant decrease in the vermin in the yard (some people refer to them as “neighbors”) as well as the mosquitos. Slightly more, is the decrease in bird, bee, and mammal populations. All this said, these noxious critters still abound in quantities large enough to annoy us on a daily basis. Therefore my purchase of this “Skeeter” device. The machine is easy enough to assemble. It goes together in about 30 minutes using the supplied nuts, bolts, and supplied tools. Following the directions, I turned on the propane, hit the igniter switch after about 30 seconds, and the resulting explosion readily confirmed the device was operational. It also realigned several pictures on the walls that had been askew for several years. Once I extracted myself from the rodent-glue sticky trap wrap the is designed to surround the machine and a much needed change of underwear I was ready to begin testing the new toy.I placed the machine about 15 feet downwind of our normal place of recreational respite and eagerly awaited the arrival of the noxious chemical, drug addled mosquito survivors of our last spraying apocalypse. To my dismay, none arrived. Perhaps this was due to the 100 mph near-hurricane winds that decided to take place during the usual afternoon thunderstorms. I’m not certain. In any case, I shut off the propane and waited for the wind and rain to subside. Later in the day I restarted the Skeeter using the typical pyrotechnic starting method. Again, the device confirmed operation by placing some overblown plant back in an upright position. What is amazing to me is this device somehow manages to power both a fan and some LED lights via a propane burning process. Perhaps the LEDs are powered by the 1.5 volt AA battery, but I don’t think so. This thing seems to be making electrons via some type of propane to electrons conversion process. To a McGyver-type like myself this has “intrigue” written all over it. Perhaps it could be a useful device for also recharging my cell phone? Or a cat food dispenser when I forget to feed the cat for 3 days? Further investigation seems to be warranted. So in conclusion, after a night of operation where this interesting device converted ordinary propane into electrons and noxious odorants that mosquitos find attractive, I’m happy to report a healthy measure of success. Less successful, was my attempt to empty the plastic catch tray that holds the demon insects from Hell. I managed to spill the dead ones onto the ground and release some of the hardy “I could survive a nuclear holocaust AND DDT spraying attempt with one hand tied behind my back”, survivors. That’s okay. I feel certain this new McGyver toy will soon lure them back inside its gaping maw to be once again surrounded by some dying brethren. I think the plastic tray, nee mosquito cemetery, could use a bit of redesign. Using my razor sharp, McGyver-like skills, I may try to 3D print a better design. I believe the machine could benefit from a larger fan to suck the blood sucking vermin from a further distances. I happen to have a spare 460 volt, 3-phase industrial air compressor motor, a spare 5 horsepower Briggs and Stratton riding lawn mower engine, and a working 1982 motor from an old Volvo automobile. Any of these devices could probably be used. I shall wait another day to determine what I intend to use. Perhaps no improvement is necessary because as of today I’ve not been bothered by a single mosquito.Objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear and your mileage may vary.

Best thing for Mosquitos
I have purchased 4 of these over 25 years. We live in the Missouri river bottoms and the mosquitos could carry you away. Before finding this little gem, we couldn't sit on the patio without bug spray. Now we have full reign of our back yard and no stinky bug spray. We even purchased one for our community organization we belong to. It is best to leave the propane tank connected to the vac when not in use to prevent the diaphragm from drying out. It can cause a need to replace the regulator. Also, little spider webs can cause the fan to become impended and need to be cleaned out. Maintenance is key for long life.

Don't buy this trap. Waste of money!
I have never reviewed a product I have bought via Amazon. However, I wanted to warn other potential buyers NOT to buy this.My first purchase of this product was several years ago. As I recall, it worked for a period of time, I didn't store it at end of season, and when I went to use it, it failed to light. I blamed it on my failure and decided to try patio repellants. After several year, I decided to give it another try, bit the bullet, spent the money and bought this again ( had several refills left over from first purchase.) Received the product, went to light it, and it failed to light. Spent hours on the phone with customer service and, after trying everything per their instructions, they agreed that the unit was defective and sent me a new one. Meanwhile, I had to explain to my wife, why I had spent over $500 on a mosquito trap that didn't work and waited for replacement. Thank god it was covered under warranty. The replacement trap came and it lit easily the first time. That was great until the second time. After the propane tank empties, you have to replace the propane, and relight the trap by pressing propane intake hose and the immediately pressing the igniter button until the trap lights. If you have ever pressed hard with your fingers on a button that is akwardly placed, it is not fun. The trap eventually lit for the next two times, I purchased the lure refills, the season ended, and, this time I stored it per the instructions. This year, I set it up, lit for 1/2 of a month and failed, Tried lighting it again, tried replacing the propane, tried to have other people hold the button, heard them complain, and finally gave up. Now the trap is out of warranty. While I thought this was a good idea, I will NEVER buy this trap again or recommend it.

Just a thought
We have had a mosquito vac for years last year it stopped working my husband is a country engineer so rather than fix it we just purchased a new one from Amazon since we wanted ease of movement we got the one with the bigger tires and cart the 625 dollar model we looked around our area to purchase one but to no avail so the Amazon model was delivered my husband put it together no problem to start it I swear you have to lay on the ground and if your tall or large it’s a pain in the butt we should have just ordered the back by itself saved a 100 dollars my husband took our old one apart and mounted the new one on our older cart that was waist high and it works just fine they interchanged then he took our old one apart and found the filter was plugged fixed it so now we have two icing in Alaska our state mascot is a mosquito so anything that traps them is a plus thank you Amazon for your service really but for use the cart with the mosquito vac close to the ground is not too practical
