Works great! Every kitchen should have one and you'll never have boil overs

Starts rattling as soon as the water starts boiling. Gets louder and louder and is definitely easy to hear. Note, this does not prevent boil overs. It just alerts you when the water starts boiling and it does a very good job at this. Exactly what I needed.

These work well, but they say on the directions that you're not supposed to use the lid when you boil water. Not sure why...maybe because it makes them harder to hear when they clank around the pot? Water seems to boil faster with the lid on so that's inconvenient. I boil it with the lid on, but cracked. Overall, these are a helpful item. They are not super loud, but once you recognize the sound then you can hear them easier.
