How many recipes are there for 'Fat Balls?'
Five weeks ago I was given a house warming gift of an ornate bird 'station' [metal frame & arms] and a holder containing 4 fat balls. The birds soon spotted this new feeding station and, over bread, seeds and peanuts, they immediately showed that they loved the fat balls and the little birds devoured them in eleven days. Never having dealt with small birds before I decided to order a large tub of Fat B's - 50 in all. Shock, horror, the birds wouldn't touch them! Some birds took a peck, dropped it, while other birds just seemed to 'smell' the balls then flew away!! Only now, nearly three weeks later, are the birds beginning to eat the fat balls, but to encourage them I deliberately stopped both bread and nuts for a few days - well, I had to do something, there are still 46 balls to go!! What I did notice, however, was that the bigger birds [Doves,Thrushes Black's etc] were tucking into them, but the small birds kept their distance UNTIL THE LARGE BIRDS 'broke into the F.B.'s!! THEN THE LITTLE BIRDS BEGAN EATING THEM TOO!! Before I became disabled I used to, at my last house, make my own fat balls which were eaten very quickly, but I can't make them any more. What I'd like to know is - how many recipes are there for making [delicious] 'Fat Balls'? OR -- are they [the F.B.'s] just too hard? I will be buying them again, so give them a 'go'.

Not too happy with these
This is just an initial review, as I have only just finished the last batch of fat balls, so haven't put any of these out yet. I have been feeding the birds for years, and am a keen bird watcher, so am a bit nerdy when it comes to buying good bird food for my feathered friends! LolMy first impressions of this product are not very good I'm afraid. When the tub arrived the base was completely smashed in and when I opened it the other day I noticed a couple of maggets. The fat balls themselves look very bland, with very little seed in, and of course they will all have to be taken out of their nets, as nets cause terrible injuries to birds. The fat balls smelt rancid too so I looked for the best before date, which didn't actually exist (as apposed to the fat balls that I have been using for several months now, which had a very clear best before date of Feb 2015). All in all... I probably won't be purchasing these again.

Rubbish
These fat balls were supposed to come in a resealable tub but turned up in a plastic bag containing 45 balls with 5 balls loose in another bag. The balls themselves are like concrete and I have been really disappointed that the birds will not go near them. We had previously made our own fat balls and they were devoured by all the birds that came into the garden. I broke of a ball and found they only contain a few seeds and a lot of some bulking out material. If you look at the contents, the percentages of seed, suet etc. only add up to 48% so the rest must be rubbish. As they are so hard, it is difficult to believe that there is any fat content. I think I have wasted my money on this. Not even the squirrels will go near them.

RUBBUSH
These are Horrible, so hard I had trouble breakin g them up with a hammer, what chance have tiny beaks got ? my birds just sat there looking at them, eventuall I got a hammer , put some in a cloth and hammered them, still some lumps to big for small birds , no at all happy returning them today

Birds like them
Just doing our bit for nature across the winter, tub is great way to store them and makes a good plant pot in the spring, cheaper than the smaller packets. Easier than seed for small birds which can get messy and encourages pigeons.

Not the item pictured.
The fat balls pictured in the tub have green plastic nets on them. The fat balls supplied do not.Update:Reordered. Still, the fat balls supplied do not have nets on them. This is important because once the jackdaws have been at them, fat balls just fall through the doughnut shaped holder that I present them in. A few pecks of the jackdaw beaks is enough to break them up and allow them to fall through the grills on my holder. They should update their picture if they cannot supply what they are advertising,

I buy these again and again because they're good.
These are great and the birds love them all times of year. They stay together well without being too hard and they don't end up as a crumbled mess. Very pleased with the packaging and that they arrived quickly. The buckets are useful too, when they are empty/
