Wonderful tale
It's a long time since I read this series and on this long awaited re-read I couldn't put it down. It has everything, trials, tribulations, highs, lows, good and evil and the perfect happy ending.

The Heralds of Valdemar
An interesting and engaging story. However, the excessive (and improper) use of semicolons, hyphens and italics for emphasis disturbs the flow of the story. This is further exacerbated by the twin issues of weak grammar and 'Americanisms', such as 'gotten' as in "...the Herald had gotten in the way of a stray arrow..."It would be beneficial to proofread and modify the text for the country in which the book is sold.

Love this series
I was thrilled to find this series now available for Kindle and had to get it straight away. I love revisiting this series periodically - it has never lost the charm of its first reading. One of those classic fantasy stories, part wish fulfilment, part challenge of stereotypes, and has always been my favourite set of the Valdemar books. My only complaint would be that the publisher hasn't given the proofs quite as much care as they should have done, and there are a few too many typographical errors. I hope they corrected them before sending the files to print for the paperback edition.

Still a favourite
I read these books for the first time 20 years ago and have probably read the full series 5 or 6 times since then.Mercedes Lackey builds a world of magic that drags you in and keeps you wanting and needing to know more.I can't wait until my children are old enough for me to introduce them to Valdemar and I can share my favourite fantasy world with them.

Oh dear...
For whom is this intended? Maybe for 13-year olds, anxious, trembling in insecurities, before adulthood? Dreaming of life mates, soul mates, and of horsey companions with telepathic abilities, all of whom will love and accept them forever? This is a misch-masch of worries, of fears, of complexes and of feelings of ”lesser-worth”, solved in the acceptance by the human and other companions...good therapy for the teens, but utterly boring and exasperating for a cynical old grandparent...get over it, is all i can say...the setting is a very odd magical world, and the characters are shallow and whiney...at least the text was cheap!
