Excellent Japanese whetstone
This is a very good Japanese whetstone. Being a 1000 grit medium stone it's good to maintain a sharp edge to a kitchen knife. It's a good size which is typical of "professional" stones. Often substandard and cheaper stones are much smaller than this one. It's also good value compared to Shapton or Naniwa which are often double the price of King. The whetstone will need soaking in water for a few minutes before use and let it dry thoroughly before storage.

Good quality stone at reasonable price point
I've had cheaper whetstones before which were ok I guess but didn't realise till I got this king delux 1200 grit stone along with the 800 grit what these sorts of stones are capable of. I also got a 6000 grit to finish off. The 800 arrived first so started with that on a Japanese style blade with a factory bevil of 10 degrees either side for an inclusive 20 degrees. Never sharpened that low an angle before so looked around and found a set of angle guides which had a 10 in the set. Once I got used to what the angle should feel like I didn't need it any more so went free hand on the 800 stone and oh wow I thought the knife was sharp out of the factory but it put a scalpel like edge on it and then when I put it on the 1200 stone to really dial in the edge and finally polish the edge on the 6000 I didn't know a knife could get so sharp. Sure these stones take a while to get used to and can be time consuming to use properly but it's a cathartic experience and if you appreciate a sharp kitchen knife and like the idea of doing something in a traditional way it's worth looking into a set of these stones. Sure there are more expensive stones out there but at this price point they are a good option for learning on before investing in more expansive stones

Top quality stone
Performs beautifully, cutting quickly, with nice feel and feedback. Builds up slurry without wearing quickly, after half an hour of use was more or less still flat, half a dozen light passes with the stone flattener and it was perfect again. Been at the sharpening game for over fifty years now, You simply won't beat these King stones at this price point. Suitable for professional or domestic use, can honestly highly recommend this stone and King stones in general.

great sharpening stone.
Great product works well and with a little practice you can even manage to get an edge on your knifes so sharp you can shave hairs of your arm. You can go sharper and get higher grit stones but its not necessary. Definitely worth the money and I would recommend to anyone that's looking for a stone to sharpen their knifes.

Great stone
I love using this stone. It's absolutely solid, wears down slowly, feels great to use and I've managed to get a good edge on all my knives with it. I have a few cheaper stones and this one is in a completely different league. Very happy with this. The first one arrived from Japan with a large chunk of the corner broken off - the seller was great when I emailed him and send me a replacement with a comedy amount of bubble wrap and protective packaging, which arrived in perfect condition.

perfect sharpening stone
I thought I have to buy new knives as they became really blunt, but no!! This amazing sharpening stone was the only thing that I needed. I sharpen my knives yesterday after watching some youtube videos for the first time and wow!!! My knife blade is like brand new now. So satisfying!
