Wwe: Batista - I Walk Alone [DVD]

I Walk Alone
This three disc DVD showcases the career of Batista. The first disc contains a biography feature and several bonus stories and the other two discs are made up of matches. The main feature of this DVD is a documentary on Batista that runs for around an hour and a half. As usual with WWE's biography features it's a very well made documentary. It takes us through Batista's life in a good amount of detail. It spends a lot of time on his life before wrestling which was interesting and important as he got into wrestling so late. It then covers his wrestling career in a good amount of detail with a good variety of people interviewed. Batista is the one taking us through his story but he's joined by plenty of others such as his friends, his mum and all the relevant wrestlers from his career.Something I liked about Batista and the documentary in general was that it came across as very honest. They didn't shy away from talking about things that paint Batista in a pretty bad light, such as him cheating on his ex girlfriend. Things like that make the things he has to say come across as more truthful because we know he's willing to talk about things that don't make him look good. They cover everything that I think they needed to from his life and career, there was nothing obvious missing up until the end of 2008/beginning of 2009 which is when this DVD goes up to. His career doesn't have too many ups and downs so it's not the most exciting wrestling biography out there but it's still very interesting and informative and a worthwhile watch. The remainder of the first disc contains several stories that didn't make the main feature. The other two discs are full of some of Batista's greatest matches.Leviathan vs. The Machine - Leviathan was Batista's first gimmick in OVW. This was an OVW Heavyweight Championship match. It was an alright match. It was enjoyable to see such an early match from his career but both men seem pretty green here so the action is really nothing special. It's not out-right bad, it's just very basic and not that exciting. It was a fairly competitive match with Leviathan's strength giving him the advantage but Machine managing to stay in the fight by hurting Leviathan's arm. It had some decent near-falls and a decisive finish. It's not a match I'd want to watch again but it was interesting to see so worthwhile including.Batista vs. Kane - This was Batista's pay-per-view debut from Armageddon 2002. This was a fairly short but entertaining fight between two power wrestlers. It was a back and forth match but Batista managed to control the majority of the action. Ric Flair got involved a few times but Batista was till fairly new so it helped the match more than harming it. It's not a match I'll remember too long after watching it but I did enjoy it while it was happening. It was just a fun, physical fight between two big guys with some decent reversals and a decisive finish.Batista vs. Shawn Michaels - This was from a year later at Armageddon 2003. It was a good match, you could see Batista's improvement from the first match. The action was good, Batista controlled the majority of the match, beating down Michaels while doing damage to Shawn's lower back. Shawn stayed in the fight, trying to survive Batista's attack and make his brief comebacks where he could. It had some good reversals and built to a decisive finish. It was an enjoyable match with a good story, the more skilled but much smaller veteran against the new powerful monster.Batista and Ric Flair vs. The Dudley Boyz - From the 2004 Royal Rumble, this was a Tables match for the World Tag Team Championships. It's an entertaining fight that starts with a brawl in the aisle-way. It has a fast paced throughout and the action was constantly enjoyable. It contained a weird bit of involvement from Jonathan Coachman which felt unnecessary but other than that it was an entertaining match with a good pace and a decisive finish.Batista vs. Chris Jericho - This was from Vengeance 2004. It was another enjoyable match. Batista controlled most of the action, dominating Jericho and trying to wear him down. Jericho was resilient and managed to come back with enough to keep the match competitive. It had a similar story to the Michaels match, with the young, powerful Batista taking on a smaller, more established star. The Michaels one was the better match but this one was still good. There are some good reversals and near-falls and it built to a strong, decisive finish.30-Man Royal Rumble match - This was the 2005 match and it starts from Batista's entry at number 28. It's only really here for historical significance to Batista's career. Royal Rumble matches are always fun but as Batista entered so late we don't get a whole lot of Rumble action. That, mixed with the fact that they botched the ending so it felt very awkward, means this isn't worth much from an in ring point of view. Batista looked dominant here which was good and it was a very important part of Batista's rise so I'm glad it was included but it's not much as a match considering we don't see much of it.Batista vs. Triple H - This was the main event of Wrestlemania 21 and it was for the World Heavyweight Championship. It was Batista's big moment but the entrances didn't help that. Triple H got a live band performance to enter to and Batista had nothing special. The match itself was a good one though and did help make Batista a star. The action was good with the two men looking very evenly matched. Triple H works over Batista's lower back to try and take away his power, which is Batista's main weapon, while Batista tries to fight back using the power he has left. The match is methodical at times but that's alright as it had good psychology with Triple H's strategy. They fight to the outside and Triple H ends up bleeding(which thankfully is not edited, some of WWE's DVDs around this time had blood edited out but that's not the case here). It has some good near-falls towards the end and Ric Flair gets involved to add to the excitement and it had a strong, clean and satisfying finish. It was a bit slower than some main event matches but it was still a very good, enjoyable match.Batista vs. Triple H - This was a World Heavyweight Championship rematch and it was a Hell in a Cell match from Vengeance 2005. It was the third match in their trilogy and was the best of the three. It was a great match. It's a hard hitting and violent fight. They don't waste long before using the cell as a weapon and introducing a steel chain into the fight. They used a bunch of other weapons too as the match went on such as a sledgehammer and a folding chair wrapped in barbed wire. Both men ended up bleeding quite a bit throughout the match which added to the match's intensity. It really felt like the final stages of a rivalry as everything they did in the ring was done with purpose and that was to try and hurt their opponent. It had a good near-fall towards the end. No more than that though as they wanted to beat each other up more and also knew the punishment their opponent could take from their previous matches so that worked well. It had a strong and decisive finish and was a great match from start to finish.Batista vs. JBL - This was the World Heavyweight Championship match from Summerslam 2005. It was No Holds Barred. It was a good, back and forth brawl with a fast pace. It starts off in the aisle-way, taking advantage of it's stipulation by using their environment as a weapon, along with a few actual weapons. It was fairly short for a main event level match but that suited their styles so I think it was the best length for the match they were delivering. There was a good near-fall and the action was constantly entertaining. It had a good clean finish and I thought it was an enjoyable brawl.Batista vs. Eddie Guerrero - This was another World Heavyweight Championship match, this time from No Mercy 2005. This would unfortunately be Eddie Guerrero's final ever pay-per-view match. It was a very good match. It was telling a good story as Eddie was known for his cheating but here he was trying not to cheat to win. He had several opportunities to cheat and was visibly fighting with himself over whether or not he should take advantage or do things the honest way. The action was good too, with Batista having a clear strength advantage but Eddie finding a way to combat that and then targeting Batista's back. It had a clean and decisive finish although I wasn't a fan of which move was used to end the match. Other than that though this was a really good match.Batista vs. King Booker - From Survivor Series 2006, this was Batista challenging for the World Heavyweight Championship. Before the match Theodore Long announces that if Booker gets disqualified or counted out he loses the championship. The match was also Batista's final opportunity at the championship. It was a pretty good match overall. The action was competitive and entertaining with some strong near-falls and it had a good, decisive finish. It started with a brawl in the aisle-way and I didn't feel like the match kept the intensity of that brawl for the rest of the match which was a shame but I still thought the match was good for the most part. I've heard this match has pretty negative reviews from a lot of people but I enjoyed it.Batista vs. King Booker vs. Finlay - This Smackdown Triple Threat match was also for the World Heavyweight Championship. Finlay was kind of working for Booker around this time but he also wanted to win the title so he wasn't against fighting Booker anyway. It's a very good match that's given a good amount of time to work with for a Smackdown match. The action is very good with Batista dominating early on but Finlay managing to take control for the majority of the match. Booker and Finlay tried to work together for a bit but it didn't last. Finlay injures Batista's leg towards the end which I would have liked to have seen more from, if it happened earlier we could have seen more psychology and strategy coming from that injury but regardless of that it was a very good match.Batista vs. Undertaker -This match was from Wrestlemania 23. It was for the World Heavyweight Championship and was a match that massively exceeded expectations. I don't think anyone was expecting something good from this one but they ended up delivering a fantastic match and almost stealing the show. The two men just beat the hell out of each other with fantastic chemistry. Batista was Undertaker's biggest Wrestlemania challenge yet and Undertaker was Batista's. It turned into a brawl around the ringside area at one point which led to Undertaker being slammed through the announce table. There were some good near-falls as the match went on and a clean and satisfying finish.Batista vs. Edge - This was a Steel Cage match for the World Heavyweight Championship from One Night Stand 2007. It was a good back and forth match with plenty of solid counters. Both men attempt to escape the cage throughout the match but they don't over-do the escape attempts. There's plenty of action in the ring and it's all very entertaining. The finish wasn't as decisive as a pinfall would have been but it fit with the story being told so I can't complain at that. A very good match.Batista vs. Undertaker - This World Heavyweight Championship match was from Cyber Sunday with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin as the special guest referee. It was another really good match. The action was very enjoyable. They knew each other so well from their series of matches earlier in the year so they had loads of counters for each other's signature offence. The action went back and forth and, as always, they had a really exciting, competitive fight. There were some really good near-falls as the match went on and a strong and decisive finish. This was another great match between these two.Batista, Ric Flair and Triple H vs. Edge, Randy Orton and Umaga - This Six-Person Tag match was from an episode of RAW. This was set up as a reunion for Evolution which we see before the match, Randy doesn't want anything to do with it which leads to the match. The match is alright but nothing special. It's not bad at all but nothing that memorable. The action is entertaining while it lasts but it's not a very long match and had a lame finish. I guess it was here just for the Evolution reunion.Batista vs. John Cena - This was a dream match at the time, taking place at the 2008 Summerslam, and it certainly lived up to the hype. It was a fantastic match. The action was back and forth throughout with nobody getting a clear advantage for very long. There were some good near-falls and plenty of reversals, one of which I think I remember broke Cena's neck. It was either a bit short or it just flew by because of how good it was but the action was constantly great and it had a clean and satisfying finish. This was such an amazing match.Batista vs. Randy Orton - This final match of the DVD was from Armageddon 2008. It's a much better match than I remembered. I remembered this being a really underwhelming match when I first saw it but this time I enjoyed it a lot more. Possibly because I was going in with low expectations but it might also be that the match is just actually pretty good. Orton controls most of the match in control after an early assault by Legacy, working over Batista's neck. Batista comes back with enough offence to keep it a competitive match and there's plenty of reversals as the match goes back and forth. It built to a strong and decisive finish and it was a very enjoyable match. This was a really good DVD. The main feature was a really entertaining and honest look at the life of Batista, both in and out of the ring that any fan of Batista would appreciate and enjoy. The bonus matches are very good too. Batista wasn't ever really known for his work-rate in the ring but he is very good at what he does and has delivered a great number of high quality matches over his career. Some of them aren't too good but the majority are very entertaining so overall this was a very enjoyable DVD collection.

Dave Batista
One of the most emotional wrestling DVD's I have ever seen, the first disk is a full nearly 2 hour documentary on Batista's life and decision to go into professional wrestling. We learn about his upbringing in a rough DC neighbourhood as been "The only white guy in the hood" as he child he witnessed 3 people shot on his doorstep followed by drug raids and more. He also talks about his dad who he never really "clicked" with as he moved in with him during his teen years in Virginia. All that he was interested in was the Gym and from the age of 14 was constantly working out which explains his size and definition. Batista is not the only person being interviewed here as there are inputs from his family and friends as well as Ric Flair, John Cena, Triple H, Finlay and more, As the documentary goes on we learn about his early and immediate rise to the top after his start in 'Evolution' with Ric flair, Triple H and Randy Orton to his Title capture against The Game. Batista was shocked and uneasy about the decision to be drafted on the Smackdown roster as he had "So much heat" from other superstars behind the scenes, notoriously Booker T as both of them had a fight in the locker room over ego. Then the emotion starts - After Batista got back from a serious injury that threatened to end his career he formed a huge brotherly friendship with Eddie Guerrero who even went as far as persuading Batista that he needed to be with his really young but pregnant daughter as she was in labour which meant Batista cancelling a championship match he had that night and catching a flight to see his distant daughter. We then here about how he was told about the death of his "best friend" Eddie Guerrero as he breaks down in tears whilst telling us about his reaction you can feel the emotion he was feeling at that time. More emotion follows' as he tells us about his daughter's boyfriend dying in a car crash and the lack of support from some of the superstars behind the curtain. All in all it's worth getting just for the documentary -On the following disks 2 and 3 there are some pic and brilliant battles with the likes of Edge, Triple H, Booker T, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and so many more.Worth every penny and for Wrestling fans and Batista fans a Must in your collection!!!All hail The Animal

Batisa I Walk Alone DVD
These are great DVDs and a MUST buy for any Batista or WWE fan. WWE - Batista I Walk Alone [DVD] [2009]One slight down side is that if you've read his book, then the first DVD won't really tell you anything you don't already know, but I still found it interesting as it contain interviews of Batista, his Mum, his ex-wife Angie, friends and wrestlers. The other 2 DVDs contain Batista matches from his early day to present - excellent viewing.

It's the (Batista) Bomb!!
Surely one of the very best Wrestling DVDs out there featuring one of the last great 'big men' of sports entertainment.Worth getting just for the documentary, worth getting just for the matches, put the two (3 discs) together - and phew what a package. Great testimonies from Triple H, Ric Flair, Randy Orton, Chavo Guerrero, Dusty Rhodes and more - a must for any wrestling fan, particularly of the last 10 years or so.

better than I expected
It is not all that clear. Sheer necessity for mind focus fish. Utterly brill, better than I expected. Where tenacity is there, not another thing coming. Master of surprise. Can match Brock Lesnar pound for pound.
