It is not like the old 80s kettle - it rusted after 9 months so had to throw it in the bin
Okay so, I have fond memories of growing up with a stainless steel Russell Hobbs kettle throughout the 70/80/90s... It was built like a tank and did its job well. So when I bought this VERY EXPENSIVE kettle I thought I was getting the same quality. The small size is good. The spout and pouring ability is good. The design looks good. It isn't too loud and boils quick. However this is where the downside negates all of the good aspects. After only a few months I noticed brown specs on the lid and outside. I thought it was sauce stains. It was rust! So I thought, okay, I would just wire brush the rust out and that worked. However, today, 9 months later, after descaling it, I noticed inside the kettle, subtly around the round stainless steel plate, there were more brown spots. On closer inspection it again looks like rust. I understand that I can try and use wire wool to get rid of that rust but for me this is a showstopper problem. When it comes to even having the slightest worry about my next hot drink being contaminated with rust and wire wool bits, I can't take it and say enough is enough. So... that's... well... ENOUGH! I have just ordered a different brand Breville Bold Ice 3000 watt kettle for delivery tomorrow and will try that one. I have never ever had a kettle that rusted so this was a deal breaker for me. Okay, maybe my one was a random bad one but do you want to take the chance? Also, note that the other bug bear of using this kettle was the lid. Every time you go and fill up you have to take the lid off, and the lid holds a lot of condensation in it, and so every time you lift it off, you get a splat load of water everywhere. To buy or not to buy? The decision is yours......

Kettle switch
Love my kettle, but, and here is my problem. Why does the switch, at random intervals, just not switch on. Anyone got any answers?

Great kettle
This is a great kettle, the boil is quick and quiet. The water can come through the spout quite quickly, so you need to judge the angle of pouring. However, the handle for the lid is slippery to the touch and is not always easy to grasp. It’s also awkward to get at under the over handle. The water level is also hard to read and judge. There is no light in the switch, so until you hear the kettle start to boil you cannot always tell if it is on.

Powerful, fast and quiet - high quality
I'm old enough to remember a time when all kettles were this shape, so it was a pleasure to revert to one from the now more common upright kettle. You can tell that this is well made and solid from the moment you remove it from its box. The base is wide and also solid and it fits the kettle well, allowing for placement at any angle. The power on button has a reassuringly positive click when pressed down and an equally firm click when the kettle is boiled.Filling it is the biggest change from an upright, top loader. You have to remove the lid, which has an easy to grip handle and clicks into place well. However, if you have recently boiled the kettle and want to top it up, be careful as steam will rise up and could scald you. The handle is high enough for you to angle the body away from your hand but you should still exercise caution.Inside there is are red markers set as fill points for 1, 2 or 3 cups. I’m not sure how useful these are, as your cup is going to be a different size from mine. There’s also a removable filter over the spout, whose handle serves as the maximum fill line. When boiling water, it starts slowly but quickly picks up, using a powerful 3,000 watts. The design and metal construction, mean that this is a very quiet kettle, and gives you a feeling it will last and last. The spout pours beautifully, with drips or gushes. It’s more expensive than a £30 plastic kettle but will hopefully last a lot longer.

Quick boiling, lightweight and super stylish
I don't normally rave over electrical appliances, but I love my new kettle! It works well and boils quickly due to having a larger base than a jug style kettle. It's surprisingly lightweight and is easy to lift due to the handle being on the top rather than the side. It is super stylish, in a nostalgic kind of way - when I was a kid all kettles looked like this! It looks and feels like a well made product, one that I hope will last many years.I was looking for a kettle with no plastic, so I was pleased the red plastic water level indicator and the mesh filter inside the kettle were both easily removable. They were both unnecessary for me as the external water gauge shows the water level and I use filtered water. I am happy to say that without them there is no plastic smell or taste to the water. So why not 5 stars? The kettle has one flaw - if you try and pour from it while the water it is still actively boiling, the boiling water splurts from the spout, overshooting where you were aiming. Not such a big deal if you are pouring into a large bowl or pan, but annoying and potentially dangerous if aiming for a cup or a hot water bottle. The solution is simple though, just wait a few seconds until the boiling in the kettle has subsided and gone quiet, then the kettle will pour with ease and great accuracy. I had read about this problem before I purchased the kettle and I'm glad I didn't let it put me off. In my opinion the good points of this kettle outweigh it's one bad one, although I can imagine the pouring problem could be an issue in some households.
