I had this tonic water in Ireland with a local gin. It is just as delicious as the first time I had it! Brought the Irish gin home to mix with it! Cheers!

Colorful & Educational
Its lomg been my belief that if you can’t have a good gin & tonic, then there’s no point to drink. G&T’s are by and large my favorite drink, and because of this, I already knew about Fever Tree, and their superb quality tonic. It’s a splurge I indulge in, because it truly does make the difference in G&T’s.So getting this book so sort of a splurge too-I was curious about the company, and wanted tasty drinks. The book is split into 4 sections, based on Fever Tree’s 4 types of tonics, although they also make ginger beer and whatnot. Don’t worry, this book will call on all of these products, because it’s a gigantic ad for the company. But a gorgeous ad. The pages are thick and shiny, the binding crisp, and the pictures beautiful. It’d honestly be worth the price as a coffee table book or gift. The history begins at the beginning of each section, going into detail about how the fresh ingredients are harvested, how they use only the best, and the history of the company thrown in tidbits. Its all incredibly informative, and actually really interesting for nerds like me. I’ve learned quite a lot about Fever Tree as a company, and about the history of quinine. The recipes are really the only downer here for me. I stopped caring about making fancy drinks in my late 20’s. I know, I sound old, and I don’t care. I’ve narrowed down what it is I enjoy consuming, and how far I’m willing to go to make said consumable thing. So when the recopes here are calling for 20 ingredients, 13 of which I’d have to go to a speciality shop to get, or spend hours making, I’m just not going to make them. The classic recipes tend to be simple, but the rest? Forget it, I’ll enjoy my easy to make G&T.If you want this book to learn how to make cocktails, I’d suggest something more beginner friendly. This is very much an advanced mixers book-if only we all had such well stocked bars.Overall though, this makes for a nice book, and it’s cerrainly interesting, and colorful enough to keep you reading.

Great book, bad ads
This is a magnificent cocktail book. Beautifully bound, glossy pages, amazing pictures. It tells an amazing story of some amazing people who decided to rescue a lost art and in the process they engage in conservation and teaching a new generation about old ways. It's a very slick package. It's also more of an ad than a how-to. "Fever-tree" is both the name of a bar and a nickname for the tree that quinine comes from- the ingredient in tonic water. Guess what product Fever-tree sells? Hint: you won't find a cocktail recipe in this book without it. So this book is basically one long ad for the products these guys sell. They literally include a chart of every single tonic water they make and what other products they sell to pair it with. It's borderline shameless.I'd give this book 5 stars if it went a little more into the vast array of traditional bartending techniques, which is what I was hoping for. You get tons of cocktails and tons of pictures of the owners planting trees. You get literally 2- and only 2- pages of bar techniques such as double straining or what a simple syrup is. If the owners are so deep into old-time bartending, why not give us more of what they've discovered? One great example would be in America we have the shrub- basically a way to take the leftover fruit from bartending, add a little vinegar and sugar, and once it steeps it produces a liquid that can be used as an all-natural sour mix. I assume the UK has similar traditions, and they probably pair amazingly well with Fever-Tree products. Sadly, you don't get any of that, because Fever-Tree doesn't make money selling those techniques. You do however get a whole page on why they decided to release a cola, which they sell on their website. So this is a beautiful book that would make a perfect gift for someone in your life who's a massive fan of tonic water in their mixers. As a general-purpose bar book however, you could just pick up any generic book of "1,000 popular cocktails" and get the recipes you want.

Not so "simple" things but still really like this
I'm going with 4 stars on this, but with guilty feelings. There are, I'm sure, people very interested in thing subject, just as with any other subject. For me, though, I find many of the recipes to be not so "simple" as the cover claims, and go way beyond my desire to fuss with.Having said that, the reason I wanted to try it was because I have a lot of food allergies and most drinks I know of use those ingredients. While I don't drink often, I was hoping to find a couple that were good, that I could order when we're out somewhere, and know I wasn't going to be having trouble breathing the rest of the nite.In that regard, I'm still looking, but have several interesting prospects. I'd never heard of Fever Tree before. I didn't know it was a brand of mixers, I just thought it was an oddly-named reference type book. So, just be aware that it's a book centered around that brand of mixers. And again, having said that, I don't have a problem with it. It's very well done - the pictures are great, the instructions are generally clear, and the info on the various origins was quite interesting. I would actually use this as a coffee table book, if our house leaned in that direction (we don't even have a coffee table ;)So yeah, it's a bigger-than-usual "cookbook" marketing thing, and rather prone to foo foo ingredients, but it's interesting and well-done and I like it.

さすがFevertree
