Gena Rowlands is simply glorious!
What an awesome film! John Cassavetes is a true genius with all the films he has made but Gloria is the best film he has made and my personal favourite. He captures so well the unlikely alliance between a six year old Puerto Rican boy whose family has been killed by the mob and an ex gangster's moll. Gena Rowlands is brilliant as the 'former gangster's moll whose life is turned upside down by her young friend and who develops a maternal instinct for the child she becomes close to and eventually loves. This thriller is exciting as you feel the adrenaline rush and your heart pound as Gloria and her charge tear through the streets of New York to a life of safety and anonymity away from the murderous mob on their trail. Buck Henry is super as the sharp, sassy six year old. I'm glad that John Cassavetes is finally getting the respect he deserves as a film-maker after his death because he made it possible for many film-makers to realise their dream especially if it did not conform to the Hollywood studios perception of how films should be made.Everyone should see this gem from John Cassavetes and Gloria is one of the best female characters in film history.

Tight drama involving Gloria and Phil.
Enjoyed the acting of gena Rowlands and James Addams in fast moving human drama. Cassavetes wonderful ?low budget? Direction. Seen it many years ago and still is very powerful.

Will they, won't they?
Gina Rowlands is one underrated actress. She convincingly portrayed the dilemma she has in looking after a friends child who is likely to be killed by the mob, her own need to survive the mob by not making waves, her reluctance to allow the child to get under her skin emotionally and losing the battle, the hardness she has acquired after years of being a gangster's moll. Quite a feat I would say.I enjoyed this film very much. It was gritty and yet emotionally charged as well. The boy in the film was perfect in the role also. The ended of course leaves you thinking. After all the mob has a long arm therefore why not find them anywhere but somehow it didn't really matter about the ending because the body of the film was excellent.

Engaging Film
Perhaps not Cassavetes at his most challenging, and the plot is a bit unlikely, but the relationship between Gena Rowlands (still head and shoulders above any current Hollywood actress) and the kid is charming. Also, a middle-aged woman toting a gun is a refreshing change.

Great movie
A great action movie with a fresh take on the hero role - a lot of action but feels different from most run-off-the-mill movies.
