Working Blu-Ray on my HTPC

Bought this for my grandson who is reading Charlie and Chocolate Factory in school. HE LOVED IT! So did I. I've seen it a dozen time and will probably see it again a dozen more. Never get tired of it. Great movie.

Marvelous for children and the young at heart. Fun extra features. For people who are neuro-atypicals like me, a very safe and soothing adventure with wonderful message. Lack of diversity in the cast might put some people off, that's my only critique, but it was made in the early 1970s. Gene Wilder is one of my all-time favorite actors.

So very glad we now own this classic movie. The new Burton version is stellar, however the original is brilliant! Was delivered in great shape & on time!

A movie to watch over and over again! I much prefer this version to the Johnny Depp edition. Wonderful performances from everyone, especially Gene Wilder.

The picture and sound are pretty good. I still love this movie! Gene Wilder is wonderful! This is a region free disc and had no problem playing in my PS4.

Way better than the remake. And by way better, I mean that there's no competition. Johnny Depp is a great actor but it's kind of insulting to have anyone portray a part that Gene Wilder mastered.

One of my most favorite childhood movies, and to see it so clearly and vivid with the Blu-Ray makes a difference you can see. One wants to share this movie with generations to come.

Der Film zog mich von der ersten, bis zur letzten Minute in seinen Bann. Ich kenne sowohl diese Fassung, als auch die Neuverfilmung mit J. Depp. Jede von Ihnen fasziniert auf seine Weise. Diese Verfilmung empinde ich als wärmer. Zwar wirkt Willy Wonka manchmal kalt, fast grausam aber noch mehr, als in dem anderen Film, stellt Gene Wilder auf unvergleichliche Weise auch die Wärme dar und die Freude, die Willy Wonka zu dem machen, was er ist. Es gibt ein Interview mit Gene Wilder auf der Blue Ray. Dort wird erwähnt, dass Erwachsene oft mit dem Kopf schütteln und ein wenig erschreckt und pikiert sind über die konsequente und leicht gruselige Ader von Willy Wonka aber die Kinder ganz simpel feststellen: Wieso, sie wurden doch gewarnt, das haben sie doch verdient. Wer den Film sieht, für den ist sicher auch dieses Interwiew eine interessante Erweiterung der Eindrücke. Alles in Allem ein Film, der von allem etwas bietet. Spannung, Frohsinn, Einfühlsamkeit, Traurigkeit, Anregung zum Nachdenken, zum genießen und noch so viel mehr.

Released in 1971, I first saw this film in 1978 on television - when I was eight or nine – and absolutely loved it! Loved it so much, in fact, that immediately after viewing it, my brother, two friends and I, strolled round the streets singing the 'Oompa Loompa' song as loudly as possible. Ahem! With that little anecdote out of the way, does it still hold up as one of the greatest children's films of all time? Of course it does! It was made at a time when they knew how to make films that the whole family could enjoy, with a strong moral centre and important life lessons for the children watching. It has some wonderful songs, including the aforementioned 'Oompa Loompa' and the sublime 'Pure Imagination' – courtesy of songwriters Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse – colourful characters, and strong performances from all concerned; especially Gene Wilder as the mercurial Willy Wonka, and Julie Dawn Cole as the wonderfully awful Veruca Salt. (Thank Roald Dahl, who provided the rich source material.) As well as the film, the blu-ray has several extras, including a making of documentary from around 2001. So, if you have children, you owe it to them to buy this. You won't regret it.
