I just finished installing an AXA on a WM180V mini-lathe. Overall, the installation went fairly easy. The cast iron cross slide has a raised boss measuring approximately 18mm x 7 mm high. I wanted to mill out that amount from the bottom of the AXA tool post, but was unable to because of the factory installed hardened sleeve. I was left with no other option than removing the boss. My original thought was to preserve the cross slide in case I ever needed to restore the original tool post. In my case I chose to cut down the included 9/16” bolt, install a 1-1/4” M10x1.50 stud and use the bolt and flange nut to fasten the AXA to the cross slide. I am very pleased with the new tool post. I may have to purchase a few extra tool holders so that all tools are mounted and ready for use. This is a very well made accessory.

I'm all for quality when it counts but I'm a fabricator in my home shop not a real machinist. I have a 15" x 40" lathe and purchased the BXA size. I realize by the book I should be using the CXA but I've seen several Aloris BXA's working perfectly on similar sized lathes. Mine fit like a glove. After a month of home shop use the mechanism remains smooth and all the tool holders work well. I think the fit and finish for the price is very good. Only issue I had is the actuating lever was threaded a bit too far and when fully installed interfered with the release mechanism. I shortened the threaded side of the lever by a thread turn and now nothing interferes and everything is smooth. I think this quick release tool post is a great value for the home shop guy. I would love to have an Aloris but as a hobby guy I can't justify the price. This unit is far more accurate and repeatable than I need to be for the work I do.

I upgraded from my post to this wedge type. Works a little better maintaining accuracy. A little disappointed in that both accessory positions are not available with setting it in the normal left and back position. I'll live with it as I am only a hobby type machinist.

Purchased the 8pc AXA size for my home shop Bolton AT750 lathe mill combo. Mounted the quick change post by removing existing tool holder and 10mm t slot bolt, drilling out the hole in cross slide and making a 14mm x 1.5 x 120mm "T" slot bolt. Works as intended. Saves time not needing to remove cutting tool from holder and re-shim to center etc.

After unboxing and evaluating what my next move would be, I decided against modifying the compound slide in the event I want to revert it back to original (for whatever reason). Anyway, the bolt that is on my Smithy 3-in-1 compound slide was a M10x18. This is way too small for the 9/16 hole in the new AXA toolpost. So I took a grade 8 bolt, chuck it up in the lathe and turned it down to fit the hole. I then bored and tapped it to M8x18 and use it to lock down the ne toolpost. Works flawlessly and looks great! I mean, looks are important when machining. Hope this helps!
