Mountfield Princess 42 Electric 4 Wheel Rear Roller Rotary Lawnmower

Firstly the service was fantastic, ordered on Thursday with an estimated delivery time of the following Wednesday, item was actually delivered the day after I ordered, next day delivery! Exceeded all expectations!The lawn mower itself was really easy to put together, I didn’t even look for the instructions. It’s really easy to use and for a first time user (never cut a lawn before in my life) I managed to get some pretty decent stripes and even managed a checker board effect.Well worth the money and would highly recommend.

Pros:Cuts the grassMulching attachment works well (I thought it would mean we'd be treading cuttings into the house but no, it must cut them very finely).42cm is a good wide cut.Lightweight so no back ache after mowing!Handle length adjusts perfectly for a tall guy! Previous mower led to stooping and bad back.Cons:Doesn't really make stripes. Overall it is so light that I have contemplated putting weights on the back to see if that helps the roller to stripe the lawn. (In fairness my "lawn" is largely clover and moss and you really need grass to have a stripey lawn I suspect!).Very annoying that the grassbox doesn't easily fit through the handles. The handle on it is in the middle so you naturally reach through the mower handles to detach it. Problem then is it is too big to lift up through the handles so you have to put it on the ground and pick it up again from the side!! Silly, thoughtless bit of design.Doesn't cut low enough. Yes, the lowest setting is (I think) the recommended lowest you should cut a lawn; but I want mine shorter! Seriously, my last mower must have cut shorter as the difference is visible, it looks like I need to cut the grass when I have just cut it! Probably just me wanting a "bowling green/billiard table" for a lawn!It's a bit flimsy. very lightweight. This is the first plastic mower I have had so maybe they are all like this. The handles wobble a bit at the place where they fix to the body. (It's the fixings into to the body not the tightness of the handle against them so nothing I can tighten up.

Amazing service! I was told that it would arrive on the Friday, having ordered it on the previous Monday and paid a bit extra for carriage. Much to my surprise and delight, it arrived the following morning. As the weather had been terrible for several weeks, trying to get my large expanse of lawn cut was almost impossible and my old Princess lawnmower had packed in finally a week beforehand after a great deal of heavy use. I knew that it would be weeks before it could be fixed so I could not afford to be minus one and bought the Princess 42 again at a very reasonable price of £149 + carriage. My autistic son and I managed to assemble it during the afternoon, using the old grass box, not the new which would have been a bit awkward to assemble quickly, ( as I am "pushing" 80), and the lawn was cut shortly afterwards during the only second dry day in the week. So once again many thanks for the excellent service. My son does not like it when the weather is bad and he is not allowed to cut the grass so it is a juggling process dodging the wet weather, keeping him happy and the grass under control! The mower is very efficient, lightweight and picks up the grass well, leaving attractive stripes up and down the lawn. We used to have a Flymo before Mountfields which didn't and necessitated a lot of raking up which left soggy patches of grass lying on the lawn frequently.

I am extremely disappointed with this lawnmower, I bought it on 26/05/20 and the 2nd time it was used the lawn had been half mowed when it suddenly stopped cutting the grass although the motor was still running, I left it for a while and tried again but it still did not cut the grass, I have contacted the supplier who told me that I would have to take it to a service dealer, I am a widow of 75 and am self isolating and my car is a mini, so it is impossible for me to take it, having explained this the seller told me that some dealers will collect but will probably charge for the mileage which is not covered by the warranty, as it is only just over a month old I am highly upset, I wish that I had purchased a Bosch as my previous one (a Bosch) lasted for many years with no problems. Think twice before you buy!

The radius and quality of cut is excellent. It is easy to use. I wouldn't describe as lightweight as it is a proper mower, so expect it to have some weight. It is not flimsy, it appears well made, which I would expect for a Mountfield. Very effective at reducing grass waste, virtually to dust! Reduces the need to constantly empty the grass box.

The grass box was a nightmare to assemble and in the end used pliers to fasten the red top. The fastenings for the upper handle are very poor and I finished up by using the old fixings for my previous Mountfield mower and these are excellent. I believe the mower was designed in the U.K and built in China - it would have been much better if it had been designed in China and built in the U.K. !! The instruction book was not written by an English speaking person and again is poor e.g. the mower does not start, it IGNITES !! Ar least, it cuts grass and what more can one ask !!!If I was starting at the beginning, would I purchase the mower, the answer is, certainly not.

This lawnmower is the best. Cuts well on any length, an ease to alter height for different lengths of grass. Picks up all hedge cuttings if having a trim up. Just can't fault this Mountfield Princess 42 at all and a definite recommend. Steve was so helpful too for any questions you have and he can't help you enough. Thank you Steve. Assembling the mower itself was simple. Assembling the grass box was a nightmare. It took four different people to try and assemble it, the pictorial instructions were as much use square wheels on a bike! The fifth person succeeded with difficulty and brute strength. A real design fault. Silver gardeners have little or no hope without help.The mower is light and easy to use. We haven’t tried it with box on but the mulching works well. Not quite easiest to fit but not bad.Let down by the grass box assembly.
