Superb material and Quality. Excellent purchase
Splendid purchase. The weight is balanced for a product that is all metal bodied. The knurled grip just makes the difference because there's no slipping or sliding down the body as one continues to write. The look is very smooth and sexy for a pencil. It does not roll away when laid down. The quality of the entire product is phenomenal. The size of the body is perfect as I have tried quite a few other metal bodied metallic mechanical pencils before taking the leap to purchase this. My old rotring tikky pencil is still intact after 9 years of constant use but because the grip is melting I decided on this models grip design and as mentioned before fantastic knurled grip and support area. It looks so sharp, slick and sexy that I am very happy with my purchase. As I have only got it today, I might review this review in a few years time or sooner if things go awry but don't expect to see me anytime soon if my last rotring is anything to go by. Definitely recommend this product.

Great pencil but no rubber!
The rOtring Rapid Pro Mechanical Pencil is an exceptional writing instrument that is designed to meet the needs of professionals and students alike. This mechanical pencil is renowned for its high-quality construction, precise writing capabilities, and ergonomic design. One of the standout features is its construction. The pencil is made of high-quality metal, which gives it a sturdy and durable feel. Additionally, the pencil is designed to be long-lasting and comes with a replaceable eraser and a retractable tip that helps prevent breakage. The pencil is also renowned for its precise writing capabilities. It features a fixed lead guidance sleeve that prevents breakage and ensures accurate lines, making it ideal for drafting, sketching, and technical drawing. The pencil also has a built-in lead hardness indicator that allows you to quickly identify the type of lead you are using. The ergonomic design of is another standout feature. The pencil has a non-slip metal grip that makes it comfortable to hold and write with for long periods. Additionally, the pencil's weight is well balanced, making it easy to control and maneuver. In terms of usability, it's highly intuitive and easy to use. The pencil has a push-button lead advance mechanism that allows you to quickly and easily advance the lead without having to interrupt your writing. The pencil also has a built-in clip that makes it easy to carry around in a pocket or notebook. The pencil's lead advance mechanism may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who prefer twist mechanisms. Overall, it's an exceptional writing instrument that offers high-quality construction, precise writing capabilities, and an ergonomic design that make it a top choice for professionals and students alike. If you are in search of a reliable and high-quality mechanical pencil, the rOtring Rapid Pro Mechanical Pencil is definitely worth considering.

3 Years later - Exceptional experience with rOtring Rapid Pro Mechanical Pencil
After 3 years of us, I'm delighted to say that my experience with the rOtring Rapid Pro Mechanical Pencil has been nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I started using it, I could feel the quality and precision that rOtring is renowned for. The pencil's solid metal construction exudes durability and a professional feel. The weight is just right, providing a comfortable grip without being too heavy. The only negative is that I sometimes break the lead as I am heavy handed, but this has been my experience with every pencil I have ever used. If you're in search of a reliable, high-performance mechanical pencil, this one is definitely worth the investment. Highly recommended!

The best mechanical pencil Rotring has to offer.
Simply put, this is the best mechanical pencil that Rotring make. I have both 'Rotring 600' and '800'. They certainly have their strengths; in many ways the former is superior to the latter despite costing half as much. However, the 'Rapid Pro' is a masterful synthesis of their best parts while adding several of its own. The lead sleeve is retractable. The construction is all but 100% metal. It has a very pleasing weight, solidity and balance. The grip is simply amazing, holding your fingers like sandpaper but not filing away your skin. However, what makes the 'Rapid Pro' truly stand out in my opinion is the 'cushion tip'. This was a feature that seemed to have been lost from the field of mechanical pencils for a long time, indeed since the demise of the 'Scripto' range and specifically their 'Cassette Pencil P1150C'. In the current day I have only found it present in the 'Faber-Castel Vario Fine' and the 'Rapid Pro'. However the excellent features of the first are totally sabotaged by such a terrible grip section it makes the entire pencil next to useless. In contrast the 'Rapid Pro' takes this feature and combines it with the best parts of the whole Rotring range to give a perfect whole. In summary; unless you are a collector striving for completion or so rich you can afford to waste your money ignore the '600' and '800'. Instead buy the 'Rapid Pro' which carries all of their strengths and none of their weaknesses.

A Step Up in Class
I'm a pen and pencil nut and have bought mechanical pencils before both for myself and for my son. I've always baulked at paying £25+ for a pencil and consequently have in my possession the Rotring Tikky, Uni Kuru Toga and several others. Last year I bought this pencil for my son (who's 45) and borrowed it when he last visited - that was it! I had to have one. Finally I bought this a couple of weeks ago and love it. Put 3B leads in immediately and off we went. The pencils I mention above are fine, nice to write with but this Rapid Pro is heavier, better balanced and the way the mechanism moves in and out does ensure there are less lead breakages - using 3B leads of course makes that more likely. So I'm a happy bunny and can recommend this to those nuts like me who enjoy the smooth writing that mechanical pencils bring.

Glad I bought it
Take your time to get used to it cause it's a nice choice. It feels a little big and heave compared to others (I have 7 mechy pencils) but I still reach for this as much as any of the others. Going for silver breaks up the black and grey if the others I have.

Best 2mm Mech.Pencil available.
The pencil itself is brilliant example of retro German design. Exceptional quality. Yet I must dock one star as it wont fit traditonal 2mm rotating sharpeners as the knurled barrel is too wide. And finding a suitable quality sharpener is a nightmare. I would have thought Rotring would have their own version for these pencils.

It has too much play and wobbles slightly when holding it
Disappointed with the pencil. It feels well crafted and has a nice weight to it but there is too much play in the thread which results in the top part being able to move slightly when writing, so it actually ends up feeling pretty flimsy despite the weight. Disappointed as I thought this was going to be worth the money I spent but I wouldn't recommend

Awesome pencil, a few small cons but overall classy
I’m an engineer by trade, but am currently taking business courses. I find myself using a pencil a lot especially when making calculations. I own a couple of Mont Blanc pens, and wanted something a step above a normal mechanical pencil to use on a daily basis. I liked the price point of the Rapid Pro and after using it for a couple of days I have to say that I’m very happy with it. I considered the Rotring 600 (but wanted a retractable tip which the 600 doesn’t have) or the Rotring 800 (which has a retractable tip, but is more expensive and has some negative reviews about its retract mechanism). Overall the Rotring Rapid Pro is probably the best mechanical pencil I’ve ever used. Love the fine knurling and the feel of it. A few small cons 1. Red ring is plastic, I wish the red section was metal 2. I would have preferred if the cushioning behind the lead protection mechanism was a bit stiffer. 3. No lead type indication (not a problem for me, Since I basically always use standard HB lead, but it could be a problem for others). Some reviews said that the Rapid Pro was too heavy, I think it’s weight is perfect. I also read that the eraser cap could be loose, mine is secure. Awesome mechanical pencil and exactly what I hoped it would be.
