The true story of what happened in Sherwood Forest, uncovered by and starring Tony RobinsonMAID MARIAN AND HER MERRY MEN was consistently number 1 in the childrens TV ratings throughout its four series, partly because it was popular with children of all ages, but also because it became must see viewing for students and young adults. It was popular with the critics too, winning a BAFTA, an RTS Award and the International Prix Jeunesse. This perfectly conceived historical farce is witty, warm and stylish. An excellent cast and faultless writing has drawn comparisons to Blackadder, Red Dwarf, and The Young Ones. It is one of those rare programmes made for and enjoyed by both children and adults and has secured a huge fan-base in the twenty-seven years since the first series was initially transmitted. Written by and starring Tony Robinson as the Sherriff of Nottingham, Tony has been a regular on our TV screens since he got his big break playing Baldrick in Blackadder. Contained in slim-line packaging with outer slipcase, all four series of Maid Marian and her Merry Men are featured alongside a compendium booklet by the artist Paul Cemmic (who did the graphics for the original series) released on DVD by Eureka Entertainment on 21 November 2016. SPECIAL FEATURES including: Christmas Special Cast Audio Commentaries Maid Marian Karaoke Interactive Game Improvised Sketches by the Cast Photo Gallery Easter Eggs Trailers Compendium booklet by the artist Paul Cemmic REVIEWS: quite possibly the greatest children s television show of all time Review Graveyard High-budget and beautifully cast, it's written and produced with an attitude that appeals to all ages and awarenesses. If you don't like the obvious slapstick, you'll be laughing at the asides and nods to popular culture: for all intents and purposes it works in the same multi-levelled way as The Simpsons - Den of GeekBlackadder for kids... or ChuckleVision for adults - Empire

Hilarious nostalgia, finally on dvd!!
We used to watch every episode, some twenty years ago, me and my flatmates at university. We were 18, 19 years old and this show was for kids aged 10-14 but we found it hilarious. One of us had his kid brother staying over for a few days, and he started us off.It has all the characteristics of great comedy:It was clever, very well written, contained some brilliant dialogue, more than a few memorable catch-phrases and it was very, very silly. With a lot of old-fashioned, honest-to-goodness, hit-him-wiv'-a-big-piece-of-rubber-wood or shoot-an-arrow-in-his-behind slapstick thrown in, for cheap and easy laughs, which are the best ones, let's be honest! And for some twenty years now, every time I've seen people snogging or when people have banged on at me about relationships, engagements, weddings and such I've been singing, far too loudly:OOOOOOOOOOOH-HOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO: RABIES IN LOVE!!!

Super funny and better with age
Just as I remembered as a child, more with some cheeky adults jokes for the parents, must have missed those growing up.Relive your child hood and buy this!

Brilliant and as funny as ever
I enjoyed this series when it first aired in the 1990s and wanted to see it again so was thrilled when they released it onto dvds. What let this set down, however, is the inconsistancy between the available options on each disc. While you have the chance to play each individual episode on some discs you can only use play all on others and this can be quite frustrating. Also the lack of episode list in the set makes it tough to know where you stopped and how many episodes you have left to go. That said the episodes themselves are still as brilliant as ever with the witty characters and humerous musical numbers and once you get past the irritation of the options menu it is well worth a watch.

Maid Marian and Her Merry Men Series 1-4 DVD
I bought this for my niece as it is one of only a few childrens' programmes that confronts sexual stereotypes. Instead of Robin Hood being the hero, he is actually a bit dim and useless. Marian(the woman) is actually the smart, witty, skilful one. I think it is really important that characters like this exist for girls as it may open their eyes to new possibilities outside normal sexual stereotypes. Good on Tony Robinson for writing this. It is smart, stupid, funny and interesting and I would definitely recommend it!
