Great series, greast era
SABR has been running this almost-series of books for a while now and they are really nice with excellent photography, text and history for each subject matter chosen for that book. In this case it is the Milwaukee Braves of 1957 when they beat the Yankees in an fine World Series but also the 1958 team that lost to the Yanks and the 1959 team that tied for the N.L. championship with the new L.A. Dodgers thus showcasing two teams who had just moved from long time home, Boston for the Braves and Brooklyn for the Dodgers, in their new homes with new cultures, societies and futures ahead of them in L.A. for the Dodgers and eventually Atlanta for the Braves. One the front is just a part of their own Murderers Row that included L-R, Hank Aaron, Eddie Matthews, and Joe Adcock with 3-5 others who could also hammer that baseball. A much overlooked great team. Look it up.

Thanks for the memories!
I was just a kid that year but I remember the excitement we all felt when the team was so successful. It brings back fond memories of my dad with his transistor radio and can of beer listening to the game and explaining what was going on to me.

I have read several books about the 1957 Milwaukee Braves and this one is close to the top as far as being a good read. What separates this book from the others I have read are the individual write ups of each member of the team. Where other books only mention the role such players as Hurricane Bob Hazle, this book offers a brief history of his baseball career. Great book; I highly recommend it.

It was a good history of the team that I knew from my childhood and it brought back memories. I could have wished for more photos.

This is an excellent book about the baseball career of Andy Pafko
This is an excellent book about the baseball career of Andy Pafko. I interviewed Pafko in 1996 and wrote an article about his career for Oldtyme Baseball News. This book has a wealth of information and does Pafko justice.

it is not great because the depth is not there
Interesting from an historical perspective. It gives a summary of all the players on the 57 team. However, it is not great because the depth is not there.

There's never too many books about Milwaukee's first MLB team
I have almost every book ever written about the Milwaukee Braves. This one focuses on the individuals that played even the smallest role in the Braves run to the 1957 World Series championship, from the broadcasters to the coaches to the utility infielders to Aaron, Mathews and "Hurricane" Hazle. The book includes articles of varying lengths on almost everybody involved with the team at any level. A worthwhile addition to the library of Milwaukee Braves fans or baseball fans in general.

Braves fan
I was a youngster when the Braves beat the Yankees in 1957. It turned me onto the Braves and I've been a die-hard Braves fan since.
