The TM-60 is a lightweight, easy-to-use condenser microphone powered by a single AA battery. By using a battery rather than phantom power, this microphone helps to reduce your overall power consumption and makes it the perfect choice for mobile recording with handheld recorders, mobile interfaces or Portastudios where more power means more recording time. The TM-60 offers a wide frequency response for precise and smooth reproduction of virtually any sound source from vocals to instruments. Its unidirectional pattern can suppress sounds from the sides and rear, helping to bring out the intended source. The TM-60 is a condenser microphone opposed to dynamic microphones which are usually being used in live performances. Unlike dynamic mics, a condenser mic does not need a relatively heavy magnet and voice coil to convert acoustic waves into electrical signals. Instead, it uses a diaphragm coupled to an electrical condenser where vibrations are converted to changes in capacitance, realising a lightweight structure that helps to create a wider and smoother frequency response. To derive a signal from the changes in capacitance, electrical power is required.

Tascam TM-60 – Battery-powered condenser microphone
I bought this to mic up an acoustic guitar for live performance (busking) and it serves this purpose adequately. It feels pretty solidly built. One of the main reasons I decided on this mic is the fact it's self powered, eliminating the need to buy both a battery powered phantom supply unit and a condenser microphone suitable for stringed instruments which would've meant spending over double the amount of this mic.Being a small diaphragm condenser "cardioid" pattern microphone feedback issues are kept in check and pick up of any sound coming from the sides and back of the mic are minimised. My acoustic guitars sound closer to their true acoustic nature when run through an amp using this mic than the soundhole pickups I've tried do too. Providing volume/gain settings on an amp are adjusted carefully feedback really isn't a problem.Having tried a few electro-acoustic guitars, in a price range I would be willing to pay, no matter what settings I tweaked they just didn't sound like acoustic guitars to me when hooked up to an amp.

Pretty good
You won't be able to get a matched pair. Useful in the field as they don't need phantom 48v, the batt lasts too.Maybe a little bright, but good value for money and very well built.I use for speech, radio interviews. Need a better windshield than that supplied.I bought a pair, but as I said, they don't match at all so fix in post!
