For a little background, i have the following over-ear headphones:ATH-m50xHD 6XXDT 770 Pro 250ohmStatus Audio CB-1Phillips SHP9500sAnd now this can....It is gorgeous. It is extremely comfortable. Personally, i like the black velour pads just as much or maybe 5% more than the grey velour, both are fabulous. The headband has a great feel, maybe a CON is that it picks up fuzz. The sound on these is great. It has this weird feeling of being an open back but it feels intimate and clean like a closed back. Bass hits perfectly, not too much bass to rattle my head but i can hear all the sub-bass and lowest extensions.I would say of all my headphones im liking the beyerdynamic sound the best, followed by the 6XX, and then the ATH-M50X's. The CB-1 and the SHP9500s just lack greatness in any category, which i think is why they are sub $100 headphones. If you have the amp to power these phones, they will make you happy no doubt.

Amazing if you can drive them properly
I very rarely write product reviews, but am making an exception for these headphones. The DT800 Premium 600ohm can provide people with so much pleasure at such a low cost, that it would be a shame not to share this info.I have a fairly large collection of headphones (Hifiman HE400s, Denon D7000, EMU Teak, Audio Technica R70x, Grado GS1000e, etc.) which all have their different strengths and weaknesses and cost between $250 up to $1000. I use them with a variety of solid state and tube headphone amplifiers, always at home -- never in an noisy office, on a plane, or commuting (I use sony WH-1000M3 in noisy environments). The DT800 Premium 600ohm is least expensive headphone I've bought, and I've been listening to it for hours a day since I got it, currently uninterested in my other headphones. It's so pleasant, balanced, neutral, fast and somehow simultaneously relaxing and exciting.I think the Denon D7000 and EMU teaks are probably better electronica, and rock & roll headphones because they've got more bass, and the Grados are probably better for large orchestral music, for the same reason. But the DT800 Premium 600ohm is the best I've got right now for piano, guitar, the human voice, chamber music and small jazz groups -- and I'm enjoying the headphones so much that that's all I'm listening to right now.I'm only using it with powerful amplifiers (TU-8200 tube amp, iFi microDSD BL, TEAC HA-501, and Rupert Neve Headphone Amplifier). All these amps drive it more than adequately. In my opinion, it sounds "best" with the iFi, but provides the most enjoyment with the TU-8200. I haven't even tried using it plugged right into a laptop or phone, but I wouldn't expect good results based on the 600ohm load.I found the sound excellent without equalization, but turning up the bass just 1db below 60hz, and turning down a small peak around 8000hz also by just 1db improved the sound slightly to my ear. These are barely audible differences, but bumping up the bass a bit made the sound more exciting, and taming the 8000hz peak a bit changed it from very slightly fatiguing to something I can listen to all day.Like many other have written, this headphone doesn't have a ton of bass, but what it has is very well articulated. The opposite of the big, flabby, one-note bass so many cheap headphones have a that so many people like. Don't buy this headphone if you're a "bass head" and love "feeling" rather than hearing big bass in your ears. Buy this headphone if you want to hear the actual low notes being played by a cello, an acoustic bass, a tenor sax. Drums sound absolutely real on this headphone. You won't like this headphone if you want to feel the air being pushed out by huge pipe organ, but you will love this headphone if you want to actually hear the pedal line of a Hammond B3.There is nothing to say about the mids and highs other than that they are excellent. I have heard other Beyerdynamic headphones that I found much too bright, but not this model, not at all.I can't vouch for what they sound like on low power amps. I can't vouch for the 32ohm or 250ohm models which I haven't heard. I can't recommend them to bass heads or people who exclusively listen to rock. I have no opinion about how much sound they leak or let in. I can't even say whether they sound the same as the standard grey model (I'm reviewing the chrome edition). But if, like me, you want to listen to a wide range of music, in a quiet setting, and have decent amplification, I can heartily recommend these as the biggest bargain in Hi-Fi headphones I have ever come across.

Much better than the 250 ohm DT990 Pro, after some tweaks they’re perfect
Overall I love these cans, they’re sound signature is much easier on the ears than the comparably harsh DT990 Pro.Pros:Looks great!Nice sound signature, much less sibilant than the 990Less clamping force than all the beyerdynamic pro models, which is nice for big heads.Cons:Pads are too stiff - buy a pair of 990 silver velour padsCable sucks and it’s attached. Not a huge problem but if you really care the only way to fix it is by modding the headphonesOverall:Good headphones for the price, and you probably won’t find anything better out there in terms of sound for this cheap.

Good cans
They are very well done. At 160 bucks they are right there among the best. But, you can get better cans around 500. They are not the last word, not the most analitic nor neutral. For computer use as I do they are a real gem. For top notch headphone music look further, some studio monitors, closed or planar magnetic headphones, IMHO. Regards.

Super fast shipping from this seller on these chrome 600 ...
Listening to them now (they just got here) and they sound incredible. Super fast shipping from this seller on these chrome 600 ohms. And they come with a nice big carrying case which was completely unexpected for me.I have DT 770 250 ohms and I've had DT 990 250 ohms, and these 600 ohms are my favorite so far. Good balance between the two and I'm going to be using them for mixing and mastering.

Thank goodness the Beyer 880 is still available, essentially unchanged.
Possibly the finest headphone for listening to a truly well made recordings. So many newer headphones are designed to give the listener an extra level of mastering. These newer headphones can be initially impressive, and possibly useful when listening to poor recordings.

Great Headphones
Exactly as described. I have had many Beyers. I am not an audiophile, so I can't compare, but my only gripe is that the wire is not detachable, and I lost my other Beyers because the wire tore.

Great mixing headphones
Awesome for mixing! I record production music and use these headphones almost every day. Great for EQ, they fit nicely, cancels noise somewhat. Definitely recommend.
