Great product for under £30 - nice features - just a few niggles
This Pico Rosewood cage is generally a very good product. Little Bolt seems happy enough. [ UPDATE 3 AT 10m... Was bored :)]Pros...Wire cage: this is strong with narrow gaps as per specification.Floors: 4 floors plus basement and penthouse bedroom :).Basement: whole base is open (apart from the lower half of the wheel) and partly covered by floor 1Penthouse: early days, visited by Bolt, but not sleeping there yet (original bedding now placed there)[update: little bit of apple and he's now sleeping in the penthouse! Yay][Tip: a juicy finger covered in apple juice IS an apple to a hamster - and it darn well hurts like hell!]Ramps: Nicely designed, seem to function well (Bolt explored immediately)Access: this is via two 'gates' - on top, the other at the side - and via penthouse lidFeatures: includes removable water bottle, feeding bowl, wheel, penthouse bedroom, ramps etc.Cons...Wire cage is easy to assemble, but a little too narrow to have the lower floor at one end.DO CHECK: the other end seemed wider and would have fitted better(the little hooks seemed to be slightly different shape?)DO NOT be tempted to adjust (bend out) the wire hooks - they will break at the nearest welded point!!!Check-fit of floor 1 first (it's the last step normally - and I couldn't be bothered to turn the other floors around!)The side clips are difficult to operate, but are safe and strong at least![+10m UPDATE: one clip snapped - don't force them, push the bars down first, then probably fine]Requires the cage wire to be flexed. The gates are secure, though awkward to 'lock', but again safe. They spring into position rather loudly. The wheel is rather [VERY] noisy - it is [VERY] loose on the axle and rattles a lot! Not suitable for a bedroom!(I am working on this tomorrow - hopefully a plastic washer and maybe vaseline???).[Update: don't think this is going to be fixable - very loose, difficult to access (without removing cage from the base), difficult to remove from spindle. Spindle is plastic, might snap - as instruction warns.]Else would suggest removing it and getting a silent one! 'conical', which is a shame![If cage is in a bedroom, would advise NOT fitting the wheel, but add a different, silent one from the outset][UPDATE 2 - FINAL!: replaced wheel with a "silent" one - BUT, when fixed to the cage tends to vibrate the whole cage! When fixed to the stand, it gradually drifted along the base until it met something. Much better wheel, but needs to be weighted or fixed in position. PRO: with the original wheel removed, the upper cage can be placed on a flat surface]With all the ramps (which hinge up), it's difficult to access the floors. That's the disadvantage of ANY multi-floor cage - but ONLY if you plan to fetch your hamster quite often.Cleaning is easy if you can use a separate 'bathroom' (yes! available sep.) which we plan to do. But that will have to sit in the 'basement' and would require the cage to be removed from the base. Not ideal, but that's our plan.Conversion plans:We might try converting the penthouse to a toilet (easier to access for cleaning), and the bathroom to a bedroom in the basement (much more cosy?). Not sure a hamster can be pursuaded to toilet elsewhere that easily?So...If you have the space, get a larger, non-high-rise cag. If not, the ~50cm length with 4+ floors is a great space for a Syrian hamster. [I would suggest larger area if not high-rise].Great value! Go buy.HEY! My only other niggle - is the bright white coated wires - the constrast makes it difficult to see within. A darker coating would be much better - and look better too I think.Merry Xmas!

Great cage.Hammy loves it.
Researched around and this cage got good reviews from hamster experts. Not the best but at least a 7/10 and no serious problems .At £25 a bargain.£45 is the full price and pets at home and other suppliers were selling it at this higher price.(I.m.o.it is certainly worth £45.Received very quickly from Amazon.and then assembly!!! I had heard it is a touch difficult to assemble and I never assemble anything and am totally useless so a challenge for me,in fact I did not think I will be able to do it and would have to ask my sister! The box was very solid and all pieces were laid out very clearly and a large visual and descriptive instruction sheet. I found the pictures not big enough, not colored enough, the instructions I found difficult to understand, however I started with step 1 and that bit was incredibly easy as all the sections just snap into place.I kept going and soon reverted to looking at the big picture on the box to guide me which was much easier in forgetting instructions and just doing it myself.Shock and surprise I completed it,perfect and secured and tested.Took about an hour. In 2 or 3 sessions. Because it was so easy and satisfying I almost enjoyed it,I was very impressed with myself.I think it could be assembled in 15 minutes but with a confused idiot like myself it took longer. The cage is very solid, very secure and looks a beautiful design on my table.Although it has bars it is very attractive with the wonderful color scheme and geometric Criss cross levels. Some hamster experts said it was too small or that it should be long and flat rather than upright with lots of levels.I purchased my single Syrian hamster(£10 from pets at home,a bargain and the hamsters looked very well kept,I don't like buying from pet shops but pets at home are the only exception)My hamster loves his cage,he sleeps in his bedroom at the top and enjoys the challenge of going up and down the different levels(there are 6 floors of fun),the wheel is well built and extremely quiet.I can see as my Syrian becomes fully grown I may want a bigger wheel or a bigger cage but so far, hamster and me are very happy. My first rodent so I saw this as a starter cage and at £25 I did not feel I could go wrong. To keep one Syrian it is ideal(never have 2 Syrians together),for other hamsters maybe 2 or 3,even more with the tiny ones.Too small for Guinea pigs.buy it

Great cage, noisy wheel!
Firstly it’s a good cage for 1 hamster. Says Xl size but would be far too small for 2 hamsters. As we have two cages it’s absolutely fine. There’s enough space and levels to keep your hamster occupied. However it’s 4:24am and I’ve given up on trying to sleep. It may be that it’s living in the room above mine but the echo of the wheel constantly going is like having a washing machine running! It’s ridiculously noisy for such a little wheel. I’ll be waiting for the pet shop to open to buy a free standing wheel first thing. I would recommend the cage but I suppose we all have to adapt things to work for us. The noise may not bother some people but I’ll happily buy a free standing wheel if it means I can get some sleep.

Awful cage!
This cage is tiny, definitely not XL. The main problems I have are the doors and the water bottle.Firstly the doors are very difficult to clip/unclip and when you do manage to do it, it makes a very loud metal clinging noise which petrifies my pet every time and shakes the entire cage. Also the water bottle which is included is absolutely tiny, I fell it to the top every night and when I wake up in the morning it is completely empty, however you can’t remove it and replace with a bigger bottle as there is a big open hole in the top of the cage which the bottle usually blocks. All in all this cage is absolutely useless and it has petrified my new pets who were already struggling to adjust to a new home
