These real wax, ivory colored unscented candles are designed so that the "wick" can basically be seen only from the front. The wick looks a tad silly during the daylight hours but when it is lit, the candles are amazing. They provide a warm flickering light and a welcome ambience to any room. The remote, which works even if you separate the candles into groups, functions well and can be set for 4,6,or 8 hours if you desire. The candles can be set to come on every day at the same time; provides a really welcoming sight when you come home in the evening! I love the fact that these run on 2 AA batteries (you can get the high drain alkaline batteries are the dollar store --- yes, more savings!).You can stop worrying about drifting off to sleep with the candle still burning. No more worries about the pets, the kids or a clumsy housemate knocking over a real candle and burning down the house! As I gaze at their glow and "flame", I forget they're not real. In my opinion, very realistic appearance! My husband, who doesn't really care about this kind of stuff, kept commenting on how cool these candles are...so, there you go! The ONLY thing that is a downside is that the remote has to be in just the right angle/position to operate, so sometimes I have to get up and point multiple times until I find the right spot for the candle to respond. The candles are on the coffee table in front of the couch so it's not like it's across the room or anything.
