A little star.
When my trusty 7.5 million candle power torch finally went to the great garage in the sky, I was on the lookout for a worthy replacement. I always carry a good torch in the car but also wanted one for camping so it needed to be light, rugged and above all, bright. I was a little hesitant as I have a habit of losing torches long before they wear out and this one is certainly the most expensive one I've ever bought (luckily it was funded by a birthday Amazon gift voucher) but it is also certainly the best one I've bought too. It's small and very light, fitting nicely in the palm of your hand. It really feels like a quality product. The first thing I did, despite its cost, was do a few drop tests. I'm happy to say it survived all of these unscathed. I dropped it from 2m onto carpet which it just shrugged off. So I tried the same on a hard floor. This one made me wince a little but the torch didn't seem to mind in the slightest. I think the lack of weight really helps as instead of slamming into the floor like a brick, it just bounces a little. Next I tried running it under a tap which I figured would be the worst it could expect on an average camping trip. No problem at all there either.Seeing as it seemed determined to survive the torture, I decided to see how it would do as a torch. It's pretty awesome. In Eco mode it's the same as any other decent torch. Seeing as it is supposed to last for over 7 hours in this mode, if it does, it will be very handy. But where it really excels is when you set it to full power. Full power is selected by twisting the body slightly and boy is it good. Even in the half light of evening the beam could easily light up the trees as the bottom of my garden around 50 metres away. In the pitch black it was like a prison camp spotlight, lighting up a hedge a good 100 to 150 metres away with no problems at all. It would also be great in a power cut. With all lights off, in a large garage, I shone it at the ceiling and it lit up the whole room as though the lights were on. I've not tested it to see how long the batteries last on full power but if they last the 90 minutes advertised, this would be a very handy torch to have to light up a whole room. All in all it's a great torch. Not the cheapest by any stretch but if you are looking for a rugged, lightweight and exceptionally bright torch that can take some punishment and keep on shining, this one will fit the bill very nicely indeed. Superb.
