What might have been
As soon as I saw this book I knew I would love it and it didnāt disappoint. How losing a telephone number may have changed the course of two peoples lives and wondering how things might have been. I read most of it in one sitting and finished it next day. Well done Freya Sampson. I have just ordered her previous novel The Last Library

A truly lovely and heartwarming novel
The Girl on the 88 Bus is a wonderful, heartfelt and original novel, with an interesting history at itās core. The prologue begins in April 1962 and then we are taken to April 2022. The context of the original meeting really drew me in from the start and I enjoyed witnessing it āfirst handā. I immediately found myself really rooting for the premise of the book to be realised, for the girl to be found. Both Frank and Libby are central characters, their separate lives & their joined meeting combining. I loved both of them and, singularly and collectively, they added so much. The story is effectively based around each of their lives and I just found them both fascinating and truly lovely characters. The chapters following Peggy in her first person perspective are both interesting and different. Her chatty persona and friendly way with words really makes you feel as though youāre in the narrative. This drew me in, and I found the true nature of her words to be truly unexpected. From the outset I could picture myself in London, riding the 88 bus and approaching the National Gallery and Trafalgar Square. I havenāt been back for a few years but it was a definite feeling of being transported through Freya Sampsonās writing. The many areas of London covered in the novel truly gave me a sense of being part of the story which I enjoyed.Rarely do I say this but each and every one of the characters are wonderful. Such an unlikely collection of people who come together in the best way. I really enjoyed following each of them, and I found their stories and history were fascinating. All their vulnerabilities were eye-opening and they were all so honest and open, it was very humbling. The book comes together so nicely, with the main hunt for the girl on the bus, but also multiple other occurrences and surprises along the way. The threads are wound together with the lives of the characters and it really works well. Each thread was an additional level of interest and character development.

Uplifting and hopeful
A lovely, but poignant story about intergenerational friendships and dementia.Libby is travelling on the 88 bus when she gets chatting to Frank an older gentleman who is riding the bus looking for the girl who got away 60 years ago!Libby is at a bit of a crossroads having split up with her long term boyfriend, so decides to help Frank with his search, much to the consternation of Dylan his carer. The hope that springs from this book when reading just can't fail to make you smile, the characters were wonderful, were going through some tough times, but were totally loveable throughout.I just wanted to spend more time with them all
