Very good book, got it for myself and home aids with my father. Surprisingly informative for a 'layperson' guide- easy enough for those without time to do biology, but enough real solid swallowing disorder information to be informative even if you've been speaking with your (or your loved one's doctor and or speech / swallow therapist. BUT- it is a layperson guide. AND it has a bias towards hyper-restrictive soft diets, overly broad (as in institutional settings.) Do note that dehydration and getting adequate nutrition are risks of the (often overprescribed) Dysphagia 1 (all puree and honey thick liquid) diet. It does not advise people to use this as a rough guide, but TAILOR the diet to your or your loved one's specific abliities and needs. No diet is good if the person then refuses to eat or drink enough to stay adequately hydrated and with adequate nutrition. For exposing people to THAT risk without an adequate fair balance warning, it has to lose a star. Otherwise, a very good guide for the perplexed!

Informative
I downloaded this on my Kindle. I found the book very informative as I had never even heard of Dysphagia until my husband was diagnosed with it earlier this year. If you, like me, are starting from zero (in spite of the directions I was given at the hospital) you can read through this book and get a pretty good idea of what you will have to do about special cooking. There are also references to organizations you can contact.

Not letting swallowing problems from changing your life
This book is a litfesaver if you have a swallowing disorder. The author's partner developed dysphagia after they had been together 17 years and the author has shared here exactly how she managed to keep the swallowing issues from interfering with their shared enjoyment of eating and entertaining.

Very comprehensive. This should be required reading for anyone in the medical field and everyone who has a loved one with any type of difficulty swallowing. Even if it's just that they cough a lot when they eat or drink. It's probably a swallowing disorder. It really helps to shine light into the world of a person with difficulty swallowing and provides good info and advice.

EXCELLAND BOOK FOR COPING WITH SWALOWING DISORDERS
This book along with all the other books, I ordered helped me to overcome my problem with swallowing. Using thickening Gels which are better than the powder, and doing throat exercieses helped to cure my problem.
