Product Description A bad-ass, star-studded action-thriller from Robert Rodriguez (Desperado), MACHETE is an over-the-top homage to 1970’s exploitation movies, starring Danny Trejo as a Mexican Federale seeking revenge against a vicious drug lord (Steven Seagal), a ruthless vigilante (Don Johnson) and a power-mad politician (Robert De Niro). He is helped by a savvy immigration agent (Jessica Alba), revolutionary She (Michelle Rodriguez) and by his brother, a priest (Cheech Marin), and finds solace with a drug addict (Lindsay Lohan) along the way. Viva Machete! desertcart.co.uk Review As a tribute to both the hyperbolic excesses of 1970s drive-in cinema and the fearsome screen persona of veteran character actor Danny Trejo, producer-writer-codirector Robert Rodriguez's Machete is, in grindhouse parlance, one mean mother. A full-length version of Rodriguez's faux "Mexsploitation" trailer in Grindhouse, Machete sketches, in the boldest strokes possible, the adventures of its titular hero (Trejo), a former federal agent turned day laborer after losing his wife and child to a katana-wielding drug lord (Steven Seagal, of all people). Recruited by shady businessman Jeff Fahey (Lost) to assassinate a rabble-rousing senator (Robert De Niro) with a particular hate vibe for immigrants, Machete soon finds himself the target of government agents, border vigilantes (led by Don Johnson!), and about half the state of Texas. Unfortunately, none seem to realise the film's central thesis: Machete's business is killing, and business is booming. Viewers expecting subtlety or even story coherence in Machete should probably check out another movie; the script by Rodriguez and cousin Alvaro leaves no genre cliché or absurd scenario untouched, resulting in less of a plot than a collection of over-the-top set pieces, dialogue, and casting stunts (Johnson, Lindsay Lohan as Fahey's libertine daughter, and Rodriguez regulars Cheech Marin, Daryl Sabara, Tom Savini, Michael Parks, and an uncredited Rose McGowan). Most of the cast seems in on the joke, most notably a gleefully over-the-top De Niro and Michelle Rodriguez as a taco truck operator/revolutionary leader who borrows her look from the infamous Thriller: A Cruel Picture (Jessica Alba is also on board as a sympathetic fed who becomes Machete's love interest). Though it's occasionally overlong and unnecessarily convoluted, the film's value rests on how well it allows star Danny Trejo to exude his steely, implacable Danny Trejo-ness; on those merits alone, Machete is a blockbuster. --Paul GaitaSpecial Features: PS3 ThemeAudience Reaction Track Review: I HOPE THAT PART TWO IS JUST AS Good ; - YES BLOOD and GUTT ' s yes yes ; Review: Great Beat Em Up - This is only the second film I have on blu-ray and am yet to be impressed by the quality difference that ordinary DVD. However the film itself is cleaverly shot and fairly easy to follow storyline, but I feel there were some characters that were just not needed. Robert Rodrigues has made some cracking films including this one but it is a shame it did not do as well at the box office, even with a cast of well knowns. Lindsay Lohan actually delivers a short but good performance in this which I know you fellas out there will like!!! Good all rounder.

Great Fun!
This is the kind of film that hits that amazing sweet spot of enjoyment. It knows what it is, the kind of film that is so bad it is good, and it revel’s in the bad-goodness. I don’t know how film makers can do it, because they are treading so close to many a Scary Movie type production, i.e movies that are so bad they’re just bad, but with Machete, Robert Rodriguez and co manage to tread the line perfectly and avoid the ‘so bad it’s bad’ label completely. The tone of Machete is set right from the opening scene, with it's fantastical violence and gore similar to the penultimate scene in kill bill vol.1. (When Uma Thurman, as the bride, fights off and ultimately, chops up, the crazy 88) In fact upon seeing the first scene in the film my wife enquired if this was a Quentin Tarantino film, "no my dear" I said "this is grindhouse" but I did go on to explain that Tarrantino is a fan of the style and does emulate it in some of his films. I think it’s a really good thing that a novice saw a Tarrantino-esque stamp on the opening scene, because I could really not think of a higher honor to bestow on a film (apart from maybe asking if it was directed by Spielberg). Unfortunately the pace of the high octane slash fest of the first scene soon dwindles there after, the story does suffer from some pacing issues feeling slow in parts, I feel Machete could have been cut down a little bit more. This is a very slight problem, however, as we are never too far from a preposterous fight scene that sometimes include burritos (yes you heard me). Before watching this film, the lead actor, Danny Trejo, raised some concerns for me, as he isn't generally a lead actor sort of guy. He usually plays supporting rolls as a generic Mexican guy, most notable in recent memory, that guy that got decapitated and had his head take a ride on a tortoises back in breaking bad. But he does really well as Machete, in the same way that Arnold Schwarzenegger does well as The Terminator in “The Terminator” with his quite poker face and his almost wooden acting. Robert De Niro plays the best part I have seen him in probably the last couple of decades (meet the parents being the exception) it is great to see him flexing his acting muscles again. Michelle Rodriguez is great once again, as the bad ass female, a part that she is more than familiar with, at this point I think we can safely say that she is typecast, and I don't even think she minds. Although ridiculous in many ways, machete still manages to fit in a bit of serious real life stuff, the same kind of way that family guy does. Amongst all of the intestine swinging and grass trimmer duelling (I’m not making this up) the story takes a slightly satirical jab at the issue of immigration. It's great how the film manages to poke fun at the stupidity of society without getting preachy at all. The only way to describe machete is, its a bloody (literally) good time, you will laugh you will scoff at how ridiculous it all is, but you will enjoy it. Think of it as the same kind of fun you would have watching Expendables 2 or Snakes on a Plane, only somehow this film manages to put a message of political morality in there as well, amazing. At the end of the Machete slashing fest we are promised that machete will return in Machete Kills, and I for one, look forward to it, it will be at the very least, interesting.

So bad. It's brilliant!
One of those films that you love but you don't know why. You know the ones. Flicking through the channels you find a film that's just started and next thing you're hooked. Can't turn it off. Machete is that kind of movie. The body count is into the hundreds, with each death more and more ridiculous. Can't comment on the blu-ray transfer, as with all 'Grindhouse' movies they deliberately have that 'B' movie grainy look. All I can say is if your not looking for Oscar quality and you can watch films with tongue firmly in cheek, buy, buy, buy whatever the format.

The most fun you can have with a huge blade!
After watching the Grindhouse double bill, I found that one of the spoof movies that had been trailered in that feature, had in fact later been made into a film itself. And guess what - 'Machete' is actually a bit better if anything than the original two films. Suspend belief, head back to the video store at the end of the street in the early 1980's, and enjoy this ridiculously over the top, so violent it's actually funny, colourful firework of a movie. Lots of special guest stars, and a hero with a face which appears to be actually made entirely of granite. For the price of the Blu-Ray, it's a steal!

Where is that mobile phone?
First rented it from lovefilm and then when looking for another movie saw it cheap so bought it as enjoyed it. This film was made for Danny Trejo, suits him down to the ground, quite violent, bit gorey and a bit rude and thoroughly enjoyable romp.

"Machete" is a 2010 film with Danny Trejo in the lead role as a mercenary / vigilante style hero against corruption and crime. I bought this DVD movie because it also stars Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson, Shea Whigham, Lindsay Lohan, Electra Avellan, Tom Savini, and Alicia Rachel Marek. Well that, and it being rated "R" I was hoping for some actresses who make up for not being much else but visual effect. This is a hilarious, over done, cult classic, campy, poorly acted, poorly directed, and extremely lame masterpiece that doesn't need substance to be more than well worth your time and money. I busted up laughing out loud at this several times and got everything I was hoping for in every category by watching this film. The hokey FX, the blood and guts, the fleshfest buffet, and I don't want to spoil the movie for you entirely but you'll have to crack up laughing when Danny Trejo uses a very special "rope" to jump out a window and swing back, crashing into the window below. The corny dialogue along with the low-budget style sets and directing make this movie absolutely a keeper. After watching a few movies not worth watching that I regret owning and intend to trade in, it is a breath of fresh air to have my own copy of "Machete" so I can view this trophy over and over. I recommend "Machete" as a cure for the doldrums, and encourage anybody who needs a good laugh to view this as soon as you get a chance. Five stars. So bad it's great fun. It is altogether obvious the cast had a great time making this film.
