What should I pay attention to when installing the seed phrase into the backup box?

Please install your recovery phrase away from others and cameras. Do not take photos. Do not read aloud. After installed, Store in a secure place, with a lock, to prevent others from viewing it.

Why I record only the first 4 letters of each mnemonic word? Is this safe?

Yes — it’s safe. The BIP39 standard uses a list of 2048 words where no two words share the same first four characters, so the first 4 letters unambiguously identify each word. Wallets can complete the full word from those four letters.

Why not just write my seed phrase on paper?

Paper can burn, tear, or be damaged by water. A metal backup provides stronger long-term protection.

How many mnemonic phrases can one HeirBOX S1 back up?

The imKey S1 features a double-sided design and can store two sets of recovery phrases (Side A and Side B can each hold one 12-word recovery phrase). Each slot can store 4 letter tiles, which is sufficient to cover all BIP39 standard word lengths.

How should I install recovery phrase words that contain only three letters?

Use a blank tile (included) for the fourth position. Three-letter words are already unique in the BIP39 list, so the blank simply completes the slot.
