Does your handwriting reflect the image you want to project? The way you write mirrors your mood and character. It is one of the main ways in which you communicate with the world, and the clarity and technique of your writing will be interpreted by others in many ways. This practical and informative book will help you to improve your handwriting and find a mature, attractive and individual style. It is specifically written for adults and uses self-diagnosis to identify problems and provides exercises for improving your script. In a digital age where writing by hand remains a vital skill, this book covers everything from holding a pen and retraining bad habits, to the difficulties that left handers face and problems that may be caused by medical conditions. It shows how to write quickly and clearly when desired, and beautifully when desired. Experiment with the way you write and choose the style that suits you best, enabling you to write quickly and legibly when it really matters. Review: Great book with practical help - If you want to improve your hand writing and understand how to be able to have every day writing that is legible, this is a great book. It gives you information on how you see the letters and so how to make them ledgeable to the reader. There are drills for you to complete and practice. Then it's about creating your personal style with your writing. They encourage you to look at what makes it easier for you while still being able to form the letters so that the reader understands. As someone who is interested in journalling I normally use block capitals so that I can read it at a later date, but this has given me the confidence to change to adult writing. Review: Great book... even considering the price - Bought this for my 12 year old, as I have officially given up on the kids versions of improving hand writing. His writing isn't terrible, but it most certainly needs improvements! The great thing about this book is that is gives a logical solution for a 12 year old. The first chapter is dedicated to seeing whats the matter with your writing: Are the basic letters constructed properly? Do the letters join up and flow? Is the writing consistent? Is it too large? Too complicated? etc. It then gives a practical solutions for your issues. This is a dream for a 12 year old, because yes it makes you practice letters and formation, but it also gives wise sensible advise (which in hindsight it bloody obvious!) It also tells a 12 year old why improving your hand writing might be worth it....i.e completion of exam papers etc. The book was over £9 on desertcart, but id say if he sticks to some of the instructions it will be worth every penny!

Detailed descriptions of writing position, pen holding position, ...
Detailed descriptions of writing position, pen holding position, how to form letters, but no specific exercises to do. 'Put similar shape letters together' is not enough instruction. Whilst I appreciate this is aimed at adults, not providing a structured programme of exercises is counter-productive. Adults who want to improve their handwriting still need the same type of practice exercises as children, and not providing these is a bit lazy on the part of the author.

Excellent guide
This is a good book. The exercises begin simply and strip back your writing to the basics; downstrokes, control and consistency. It is a guide to rebuilding your penmanship through hard work, it is not a quick fix. It will take months to remodel your style as an adult through repetition of the suggested patterns. However, it is not hard work to read and could probably be read in one sitting. I read it through, started the exercises and find myself referring back to it constantly. Don't dismiss the part where a change of pen grip is suggested, I experimented and came up with a hybrid that works better for me, more relaxed and less painful. Overall I would recommend this book if you're unhappy with your penmanship. It will guide you but won't do the work for you. Good luck!

Help for your handwriting
This is a very useful book to help with problem handwriting. Doing the exercises has helped me control the pen. In fact it's like learning to handwrite all over again, whilst trying to erase the bad habits. I have also bought, and would recommend, handwriting books by Tom Gourdie which are all beautifully handwritten. He teaches that we should be writing with our hand gliding across the page instead of writing with our fingers. Yes there is a difference. His books may be hard to get but are very useful. In the 1950s he set up the standard for children's handwriting in Scotland. Sweden, amongst other countries, also adopted his methods. It will take some time, with practice, before my writing is how I want it to look but I am grateful for having this book to highlight the problem and show that it can be improved upon.

Improve your handwriting - not learn to write from scratch as most other handwriting books seem to be.
I've only had this book a few days and my handwriting has improved massively. This book is for adults and it approaches the subject knowing that it isn't starting with a clean slate and gets you to analyse your own handwriting first before offering a course of treatment. Not all the exercises in the book are for everyone. I'm not sure I'll follow most of the suggestions in there, but I maintain that a book only needs one good page to justify itself and just following a few of the things in there has caused an improvement already. In my case I've been able to produce just about legible but very scruffy writing for years and I've come to the conclusion that at school and later as a student I didn't really have the luxury of taking time to improve the consistency of my handwriting because that never had the priority that getting things written quickly did and the fact that my handwriting was mocked just made me give up even trying to write nicely. Looking on the web for information on improving handwriting all seems to lead to learning that old-fashioned American cursive style of writing with lots of loops and backwards "r", and "s" with the top missing and I'm not looking to change the forms of all my letters so that I can write out wedding invitations in fountain pen. Essentially, I just want write in a much improved version of my own handwriting. This book helps you to do that, but there's no miracle cures you have to spend some time figuring out what improvements you want and work on them. For me I look at my handwriting as an ongoing project. The reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is it's not a particularly big book and might not be your one-stop reference, but then again it's not very expensive and has certainly paid its way for me.

Do not buy Kindle version
The book itself seems very good, but do not buy the kindle version. The book very frequently references places to look by page number, and these pages are extremely unlikely to match up with those on the kindle. In addition, there are many examples and illustrations and these are far too small to be able to see and interpret properly. (The handwritten text is readable, but the attributes that it is trying to illustrate are usually lost.) I have returned the Kindle version and will be buying a hard copy of the book.

The embarrassment got worse when I started getting books published and people were ...
All my life (I'm 70 this week) I've been embarrassed by my handwriting which was a characterless scrawl. The embarrassment got worse when I started getting books published and people were asking me for inscribed and signed copies. Eventually, with the leisure of retirement at my disposal, I decided to take the matter in hand and bought this book. The methodology is excellent, breaking the script down into a few basic strokes and encouraging repetitive practice of similarly-formed letters before trying to combine them into a cursive script. The author introduces a 'training hand' which starts off looking quite immature but as familiarity and speed increase develops into a mature and personal style I began the project in late August and in December received compliments on my handwriting from people who had not eve,n known my history. It felt really good to be told for the first time, at my age, that I had beautiful handwriting! It's not easy, and nobody can make it so - but this book certainly makes it possible.

Handwriting - Yes You Can!
I was taught to write in school and always have done so [I didn't 'unlearn' it like my daughter did through lack of use]. Interesting and a valuable resource.

The right practice
I loved this book because it was exactly what I was looking for in a book about improving my handwriting. It takes quite a lot of practice to develop a nice handwriting and this book provided me with the exercises I needed. It starts out by pointing out a few common handwriting vices (a few of which I identified myself with) and then moves on to exercises about improvement. My favourite exercises are the ones about developing a rhythm when writing cursive. It is indeed a good feeling when you're able to lock in that rhythm. There are tips and exercises on how to make your handwriting more mature as well. The book ends with some tips on writing with a fountain pen with an italic nib, which gives your handwriting some nice line variations. The script suggested by the authors as a baseline is the Italic script so if you are looking for a change in handwriting that leans toward Spencerian script or English Roundhand, then this book is not for you. I believe this is a great book and I don't understand why it doesn't get as many referrals as Write Now, by Getty and Dubai.

effective exercises
It is easy to analysize your handwriting and to make the very effective exercises. You will already see the results after very few exercises but you have to be careful not to become too critical with yourself.
