Configured badly out of the box but fixable
After figuring out how to overcome some issues with this set, I've updated my rating from 2 to 4 stars.Updated review:When I originally tried to use this set, I was getting some pretty inconsistent / bad results, due in no small part to the fact that the dies come installed upside-down and you can't see what you're working on. Additionally, the directions are a bit vague in how to position the connector in the crimper (they say "flush" ... flush with what?).Here's how to get better results.First, swap the upside-down dies. Use a screwdriver to take the dies off of the tool and reverse which side they were on, being careful to make sure they line up appropriately so the wire gauge sections match. Start the screws back into place but do NOT tighten them yet. Squeeze the crimper shut and if everything lines up properly, tighten the die screws using your other hand, while holding the crimper shut.Second, the directions say to position the connector so that it's "flush." They do *not* mean push it into the crimper so that the non-crimped part is flush against the crimper. The way to load a connector into this tool is as follows: 1. If necessary, *slightly* pinch the large part of the crimped end of the connector together so that it will fit into the appropriate die section. 2. Insert the connector into the crimper as illustrated in the manual (keeping in mind that you've reversed the dies by now) and squeeze the crimper so that the ratchet clicks once or twice, just enough so that it holds the connector in place. 3. Now *pull* the connector by the exposed end until you feel it being stopped by the inside of the die. From here, you're all set to crimp something. With those two issues resolved, I definitely feel like I could recommend this set to someone. It's still not perfect but it's well worth the money.Original review below:I may be spoiled, but I've never used a worse crimper of this style. And to be clear, none of my other crimpers are especially high end, either.First, the setup is very awkward on this one. The dies are upside down so you can't see how far you've inserted the wire unless you rotate it around or crane your neck to the side. This usually ends up causing your wire positioning to change as you move things around to see it so it's hard to get things right, making this a slow tool to work with. I haven't tried swapping the top / bottom dies yet because the instructions clearly illustrate them being in this configuration.Second, crimps are inconsistent. The connectors are wide enough that you have to pinch them together a little to get them to fit into the die, and this probably contributes to the problem. However, I think the main issue is the shape of the die, which somehow isn't curving the crimped part of the connector into itself all the time, which sometimes results in one side staying sort of straight and not crimping correctly. The resulting crimp usually works but is less than ideal. If I was doing work for someone besides myself, I'd never let crimps like that go.Finally, and this is really the least of the issues, the directions are pretty badly translated. Granted, you don't need much for using some crimpers but due to the way these are upside-down and perform inconsistently, you may find yourself trying to refer to them a few times to see what you're doing wrong. The unfortunate fact is that once you decipher the directions there isn't much to be learned. It's just a bad crimper / connector bundle. If I had it to do over again, I'd skip this set and keep looking for something else, even at twice the price. I absolutely would *not* recommend these if you have other options.

Great SN-48B crimper kit for the price!
I am building an arcade that requires lots of crimped spade connectors so I decided to buy a good, but low cost, tool to make my job easier. Since I have another Preciva crimper that I like very much, I figured it was a safe choice to buy the SN-48B.The crimper itself is sturdy and well built. I make a light use of it so I can't speak to longevity of the tool, but it would seem to be good enough to last a long time. The jaws are attached via a screw and many similar tools seem to use the same or similar form factor so I wonder whether they can be replaced with alternative jams. However, the tool is cheap enough to not make this an interesting option. I'll just buy a crimper for each type I need. Once you crimp you never go back to manually soldering the wires and bending down the retention tags with pliers! Was I crazy?? ;-)Using the tool: I love that it has a ratchet as it makes it easier to retain the connector in place while you position the wire before crimping. The steps I follow:1) Prepare the wire. Remove insulation to only expose the length of wire that is crimped by the tags (see pictures)2) Pick the right jaw for connector and wire gauge3) Use your nail to wedge the insulation tags into the jaw. I do not bend them with pliers as I want the tags to put pressure on the jaw thus keeping it in place (see pictures). Make sure the two sets of tags align properly with the two different jaw depths4) I compress the tool just enough to secure the connector in place5) I insert the wire from the other end so that only the bare wire is in the wire crimping portion of the connector, and there is insulation in the insulation crimping portion.6) Compress the tool fully to crimp the connectorWhile I am happy with the tool, and case, I can't say the same about the connectors. They appear to be a bit flimsy, and the rubber insulation is likely insufficient for jobs where you must absolutely avoid shorts or contact. Mostly what worries me is how soft the rubber is, and how little overshoot there is to cover the metal parts of the connector. Also, the product pictures show that the little sleeve goes on the male end and the glove goes over the female connector. If you do it this way, there is a small portion of the male connector that is not covered and thus poses a risk of contact. If you invert the covers - sleeve on female and glove on male - this problem goes away. I took pictures that will hopefully show what I mean.I docked 1 star simply because a great tool was paired with not so great connectors, but in the end I purchased the kit for the tool, and I can surely find connector I like better that will work with the SN-48B crimper.

Good, solid tool with a few minor flaws
I'm going to split this up into a few sections, based on the things that stuck out most to me.Functionality:This crimper did do its job; that is, it put connectors onto wire that had been stripped. I did not realize until using it that the connector must be inserted into the tool the "wrong" way, or the opposite of what looks right. However, once inserting it the way it needs to go, it works fine.Build quality:The tool itself is definitely well constructed, with solid steel and a handle that fits in the hand nicely. It also has a locking mechanism built in that is very handy. It is similar to one of those pool chairs that recline, where each "click" will lock it into place, and the last "click" will reset it and let it go back to resting position. This does seem to have a drawback, which is that it will sometimes lock up in the wrong position. Of course, squeezing the handle more will reset it, but it can become annoying.Connectors and sleeves:The connectors that come with this kit are very simple in design and work well, and I don't see them ever breaking. Since they are gold plated, I don't expect them to rust, either. The rubber sleeves work well enough, though I would expect them to make the wire waterproof. Better for keeping dust and dirt off of the wires. The project I ordered this for is connecting aftermarket fog lights to my truck. I chose to go this route instead of soldering because I'm planning on replacing my bumper in the near future, and I will need to relocate my front bumper. For this project, they worked great.I do recommend this product.

Great Basic Crimping Tool & Connector Kit
After receiving this tool kit I used it soon after, it crimped a connector very well and secured the wire tight. After finishing crimping a connector, slipped on the supplied cover and the finished connector looked like a professional manufacturer made connector. Very happy with this tool and spade connector kit. I have been working in the electronics field as a hobbyist & professionally for 40+ years & I recommend this kit.If you need to add or replace spade connectors etc.. for various electronic projects, this is a great kit! Excellent value for an introductory tool set that includes spade connectors with slip on covers. Basically a really good buy. This economic crimping tool is well made & functions well. I purchased this tool to replace a very old expensive one I had that wore out and was pleasantly surprised how well this one worked, it crimped as well as my old one. The pictures I added are the first two connectors I crimped with this kit, they turned out great!Happy Crimping 😊 Thank you & all the best!

Another Excellent Preciva Tool
First look and feel at this tool is wow, it feels solid, and durable. The ratcheting is smooth and it appear to be overall well made. The 150pc terminal connection kit is more of a cheaper set, but good for general use.The Crimper is simply a crimper only, it is not a multi-use wire crimper that features a cutter and wire stripper, so you will need a separate tool for that job. This isn't entirely a con, as from what I've experienced and have learned, ratcheting crimping tools create the best connections, and are preferred over the multi-tools. That being said, be aware when you purchase this that you will need to get yourself a method of stripping and cutting your wires outside of this tool. The wiring kit comes with some standard sized quick-disconnect (Spade) connections with rubber sleeves. I would've preferred hard plastic sleeves, as they are more permanent, where as the rubber sleeves can slip off the connector and expose them. The crimping tool is metric and doesnt feature color codes, but does have the gauge etched onto the jaws, and the kit itself labels the gauge on the front of the box. This tool works great for creating terminal connections that can easily be disconnected. Good use in automotive electrical wiring, lights, creating connections onto plugs and sockets, and could even be used to create a fused splice connection by slotting the female end onto the male end of a fuse.I myself plan to apply this to my truck when I install a keyless entry kit.I did a few test connections and included in the photos to try this out before I actually use it on my vehicle. The connects hold tight, can be used to connect to plug terminals, and can be spliced onto fuses. Exactly what I need to do for my keyless and powered window mod kits on my truck. Still would recommend plastic shielded connections though. It would also work fine for splice connections in wires, but for that purpose you might as well use a twist connection.Pros:Price, Preciva always delivers the best prices and top customer serviceQuality of Crimper, its solid and built to lastCons:Cheap Connections included with kit (Not really a big deal, they're more of a bonus at this price)Lack of color codes, (again not really a big deal, but usually found on most other crimpers)4/5

Very sturdy and makes solid crimps
This is a very heavy and well-made ratcheting crimping tool. Great value for the money. The crimps are significantly stronger than a typical automotive crimper

Good quality tool and easy to use
The crimping tool seems to be very high quality. I recently used it for some speaker wire terminations and found it easy to use. You can load the terminal into the crimping tool, the tool will actually lock at a number of preset positions. This allows you to use one hand for the tool and terminal while using your other hand to insert the wire. Simply squeeze the crimping tool and you have a secure connection. The crimping tool has a number of preset locking positions, to unlock the tool you can either use the release lever inside near the head of the tool or fully compress the handles together to release the lock and allow the tool the tool to open. This was the only feature I found missing from the instruction booklet.

Good Crimper... Spade Connectors Not So Much
We needed to replace the plug connectors on our electric blinds as they were shorting out. After a little research, we settled on this kit as it included a crimper, male and female spade connectors and heat shrink pieces. The crimper is well constructed and has a nice ratchet mechanism which allowed for secure connections to the wire and plastic sleeves on the wires. The connectors are thin metal but they do the job. The wings which you crimp are too long so you will want to trim those before crimping. Overall, this worked well for 1mm solid wire and braided wire so we are recommending the product.
