'Clear and bright'
This book was bought with another on the same topic. This is my least favourite as it larger to handle with the hard back and I felt at one point, I was looking at one of the well known car manuals. However the photographs are clear and informative, the book overall, is bright and attractive, I would reccommend that prospective chicken keepers continue to research the various literature that is out there, I will however use this book for reference.

Excellent book for beginners and 'intermediates'!
I bought this book along with another, "The Urban Hen" - this is by far the best though! It looks like a traditional car manual, some friends have even laughed at it!, but it does cover everything you need to know and will probably ever need to know about chickens. I was a total novice when I got this, but it really did prepare me for getting our first 3 hens. It's in clear sections/chapters with more advanced chapters for the more advanced chicken keeper! It has fantastic, helpful photographs all the way through, including an excellent section (though not exhaustive)on breeds. It goes into great detail on health problems, and again the photos are particularly helpful if you're a newbie like me! I would definitely recommend buying this - yes it is fairly advanced in parts, but you can dip into the sections you need and leave the more advanced til you need them. (I hopefully won't be needing the 'Dispatching' section...!)

Just the Job!
I bought this book as it was well recommended by Amazon purchasers. I have to say, thanks, you haven't let me down. Its a good all round introduction for this back garden hobbyist. I don't need ten tonnes of detail but clear instructions and reasons. I like the layout and (big kid that I am) I like the pictures which help make it so readable. The nice chap I got my chickens from also said he recommended it and he seemed to know what he was on about! I am extremely pleased I bought the book.

Hen Beginners Hen Bible. Top advice and highly recommended.
This book is set out in such a way as to follow one's thought processes in coming to a decision as to whether you even want to start keeping chickens. From equipment needs, breeds and varieties, sourcing your chickens to rearing your own and dealing with health and how to spot a poorly chook. After reading this I realised how much more there is to poultry-keeping and brought my rather grandiose plans into line with reality. I now have a small flock of very happy and productive hybrids and my plans for some showy breeds is on hold until I have the necessary experience. That's due to this book; The hens would have been unhappy and I frustrated. Thank you Mr. Beeken ( Beaken, bet you've not heard that one before) and Haines.

Un buon libro completo, anche se non ben scritto, quindi la chiarezza ne risente. Non credo che esista una versione italiana.
