The stainless steel insert is removeable making it easy to empty and also to remove when the tea is brewed to your liking so it doesn't keep getting stronger as it sits. If I had a criticism it would be that it is really a pot for one. You can get two small mugs of tea from it but only just. It would be nice if they made a larger version. I love the range of colours (my camping pot matches my trailer tent!! How sad is that!) too. I think they make lovely gifts for a tea drinker. Is it a squashy mesh construction or solid stainless steel cup with tiny holes? Thanks.** A: Hi, Somewhere between the two. It is a thin sheet of stainless steel folded into a cylinder shape and perforated with lots of tiny holes. It is very sturdy and has a pivoted plastic handle to remove it while still hot without personal injury and to halt the infusion process at the right time. I use this every day many times and the only word of caution I can add is that he aforementioned handle is anchored in such a way as to lay flat on top of the infuser in only one position. Forcing it the wrong way could compromise the anchorage, but it is easy to get into the routine of doing it correctly so should not be an issue. Having been a proponent of loose leaf tea for around 60 years (not a fan of tea bags!) I can safely say this is one of the better teapots I have used on a long time. It pours well, feels solid and robust and the industrial construction gives it a build quality sadly lacking in many lesser examples. I opted for the orange version and find it looks great on our beverage station. Being ceramic it does not stain too badly and is fairly easy to clean when it does. Even though it is ceramic, the handle never exceeds comfort level and is about the right size to hold with confidence. It's maybe not surprising it has taken decades to fulfill. Consider the variables. Loose leaf tea - many types, and all of them generally a pest to deploy. Mugs - rarely of the right porcelain, or the right size. Teapots - usually terrible pourers, with annoying lids, hard to clean, and either too small or two big. You'll be indifferent to the news I have sorted the mug, but that at least pleases me. The tea? Well I can share the results of extensive research for the perfect Assam, which has yielded surprising results. But the teapot? This, I can confidently say, is it. If there was a teapot Olympics (and frankly there should be) this would win hands down. Dripless pouring, a pleasing retro shape which is also easy to clean, a lid design of such simplicity and perfection I could make tea from the tears of joy it brings. And the infuser? Simple, unfussy, and effective: pour the water in slowly, close the lid, and leave a few minutes. No need even to stir. Two and half teaspoons of tea in; two cups of well brewed, mid brown happiness out. There is finally a motivation for rising each morning. The quest is over.
