Still the Sultan of Sound Cards
I have been using Terratec sound cards for many years now. I went through two incarnations of the internal Universe model (with breakout box front panel) which I was extremely pleased with before I ended up with my current USB DMX6Fire. I have found the sound quality to be outstanding and use it extensively for digitizing vinyl, sampling from diverse sources such as minidisc, vhs and an old cassette Walkman. The versatility of being able to send the various inputs to different outputs (speakers, headphones) simultaneously has also been very useful. The Loopback feature also provides an easy way to capture sound from the web. There are many other I/O's that I will never use, but my friend's son also uses a DMX6Fire for DJ'ing and so forth and prefers it to his earlier M-Audio unit. On the occasions I have had to ask for tech support, I have got a quick and helpful response every time. There are two caveats, as nothing is perfect...1)If you install the Terratec software in multichannel mode(which I recommend), be advised there are some other software packages that may not like talking to the drivers and fail to recognise the inputs as a separate device, although nothing major.2)In some computer configurations, exessive network activity can cause stutter on the playback. Certain scan-on-demand antivirus programs can be the culprit here, but this behaviour is not necessarily confined to the DMX6 Fire - plenty of information to be found on the web. This can be time-consuming to resolve, but overall I have found it to be worth persisting with.

Warning - supplied with European plug!
I bought mine from Computer Extreme. It's a nice sound card but supplied with a "brick" mains adaptor that has a European plug. When I contact the supplier they said "You see at your Amazon Order, but we can send an Adapter. You become this Item now ?". I've no idea what they mean by "you become this item" but the offer to supply an adaptor is hardly satisfactory. The sound card should come with a UK plug, or state clearly that it doesn't.For anyone else who has bought one of these for use in the UK, Maplin sell a great adaptor made by SMJ, it's called the "Euro Converter Continental 2 Pin to UK". It fits perfectly and has a screw activated clamp to lock the adaptor in place making a good solid connection.

Does not work as expected
Not good. No UK plug on power supply. Limited documentation. Screen shots are in German. Doesn't work properly with latest Windows - 8/8.1. Driver software supplied as Beta, very buggy. System tray driver icon disappears randomly Can't connect my turntable through the 'phono' jacks, as no driver to receive the signal. Had to use a separate pre-amp into 'Line-in' which defeats the object of the unit. Cost Β£200!! Amazon should remove this unit ASAP

Terratec DMX 6Fire USB - Initial Impressions
Having decided that I needed a means of connecting my analogue Hi-Fi equipment to my computer, I was attracted to the following features of the Terratec DMX 6Fire USB :-i) Built-in support for the direct connection of a record turntable.ii) High quality digital audio up to 24-bits at 192 kHz sampling rate.iii) External unit with a USB connection to the PC - for good signal to noise ratio.iv) Software bundled for sound editing/mixing and noise removal :-Algorithmix SoundRescueAudacityMixVibes Home EditionI purchased my Terratec DMX 6Fire USB via Amazon Marketplace supplier Avides Media AG, who dealt with theorder efficiently and met their promised delivery schedule. As I am based in the UK they thoughtfully included a2-pin to 3-pin mains adaptor for the DMX 6Fire USB power supply unit. The installation and set-up of both software and hardware was straightforward, and the manual (in PDF format)is clearly presented. It was possible to get up and running fairly quickly.Having had two weeks to become familiar with the DMX 6Fire USB and the accompanying software, myexperiences so far have been very favourable. If there is a limitation with my current setup, then it is the performance of my Notebook computer (1.8 GHz processor) which lies somewhere between the Minimum and Recommended specified by Terratec. I have found that for reliable operation (no dropouts during recording) this limits the sampling rate to 96 kHz when using the turntable phono input (which has software-supported RIAA equalisation).Actually, I think the sound quality is very good, even at a sampling rate of 96 kHz. Eventually I would like to be able to use a 192kHz sampling rate for the best results with good source material, but I am quite happy to wait until I upgrade my PC.

Only got to get one thing right...
....no, too much to ask for - plug is european - packaging is all in English, plenty of usb and jack adaptors (useful but as musos will be ordering this do tend to have most of these things) - but no euro to uk adaptor / correct mains plug ! rendering it currently useless, also doesnt tell you where to download drivers etc as i dont have an optical drive - i believe these were used many years ago to put that silver disc they provide into.I'll write a review on the product if and when i get it running.Someone get it right there, these arent biggys they just take a little care, or are you just box shifters?
