Works quite well
I waited for these to be in use for a couple of weeks before reviewing. There are two cats in the house, both could stand to lose a pound or two. These were purchased specifically for daily portion control. The portions designated in the setup menu and appear to be relatively accurate.I was hesitant about the purchase after reading numerous poor reviews. There were many complaints regarding the noise level of these units. There are two different mechanical devices contained in each unit, they're going to make noise people! Some of the reviews I read made it sound like it was a garbage truck in the house. They emit a minor bit of noise when one of the functions is in operation. I would not even consider it loud or obnoxious.Apparently on the early models, the RFID tag had no replaceable battery. These new ones have the typical 2032 battery found in garage remotes etc. After 2 weeks in use, these are working as advertised.I could ramble on but, I am pleased with the purchase.

Game changer
My wife and I have three cats. The oldest, is a bottomless hole. He will eat food until he pukes. The middle one is a grazer. She comes and goes as she pleases. The youngest, will eat his food until he's not hungry anymore which may be the entire thing or sometimes it won't be. The three of them having different eating characteristics means that they need to be monitored while eating or ol' fatty will eat everything. Unfortunately for me, come 5AM, it's like they haven't eaten in days. We've have the SureFeed Microchip feeder for our grazer for about a year now and it's been a lifesaver for her since we no longer needed to hide her food when she wasn't eating. However, I wanted automatic feeders to help with our sleep schedules. We were originally going to try to just get normal automatic feeders and do 4-6 smaller meals per day and hope that everyone would eat quickly enough before our oldest could eat everything. Instead we found these. The PortionPro Rx is expensive. Trust me, I bought three of them, I know. But they're worth it if you need a 1 animal 1 bowl solution. We've been using our three for a few weeks now and I can actually sleep-in without getting woken up. It's incredible. There's really only two downsides to these feeders.1) They must be powered via wall outlet. There is an internal battery, but it's just to keep the time and settings saved for when it's disconnected from the wall. It's not inherently a huge issue, but know that the feeders will NOT work if you lose power. Because of this, we probably wouldn't be comfortable leaving for more than 24-48 hours without having someone check-in on our cats.2) They're loud. They're not insanely loud, but they're loud. I wish they could be quieter, and future revisions may do that, but it's not a deal-breaker for me.I've only had them for a few weeks, so if they stop working, I'll update my review. Otherwise, I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

unfortunately the only option
i was really excited for this to arrive, but it seems a lot of the negative reviews were very right. thereās not really other alternatives though that have both a tank and a chip so here i am. i will say, my cats have finally stopped harassing me ten times a day for food. i have a maine coon mix that tries to eat everyone elseās food after his own. this has stopped that behavior. sadly, that is the only good thing i can say about these feeders. so far they have been a real pain in the neck, and an eyesore.pros:-has stopped my fat cat from begging 24/7-if you unplug it and plug it back in hours later it still seems to be mostly the correct time-durable (my big boy hasnāt been able to open the door to my other cats feeders.)cons:-easy for cats to reach up into the feeder and pull kibble out. when i tested it myself the door to the feeder would close, maybe because my hand is larger than their paws are, but my other cat sits around all day sticking his paw up into the tank and pulling out kibble and looking smug about it. it kind of eliminates the purpose of having it. heās not the fatty of my cats, but if he has free access to all his food all the time he will be.-pairing the tags with multiple cats is frustrating and not user friendly. itās difficult to tell which is paired, and the layout of the screen is difficult to navigate even after reading the manual.-the tags have to be within three feet of the feeder for you to open the door manually or dispense food.-this is one of my biggest gripes with it, but the door mechanism is SO LOUD. i do recording during the day and i can hear it in the background of my recordings in a whole other room. it sometimes goes off at night too randomly.-i tried to make my cats have separate feeders but now itās paired so that they can access whichever. it was so unnecessarily hard the first time i paired their chips that iāve left it that way.-the screen is bright blue. the light for the button is also bright blue and stays on constantly. this may not be an issue for others, but if you canāt sleep with a lot of light, this will bug you.-i already reviewed the chip separately, but the chip tag for the collar is indeed massive and ugly. itās annoying to take apart, and itās annoying to put together. none of the batteries are in them when they arrive so you have to individually unscrew a bunch of teeny tiny screws and screw them back together as many times as you have tags. there are two screws on each and by the time i unscrewed and rescrewed them back together they were nearly all the way stripped. the tiny screw driver is not included btw.in summary: wouldnāt recommend unless you need a tank and a chip/have food stealing cats. these have potential but are ungodly overpriced for how far they have to go still. theyāre huge, loud, and have a unflattering design. if you have clever cats they will figure out how to pull kibble from the tanks. the noise is awful.

*UPDATED REVIEW- Product is good now that I have one that works
UPDATED REVIEW:Iām changing my initial review from 1 star to 4 stars! The seller saw my review below & reached out to me to resolve my issue which I really appreciate. They were in the process of changing email addresses & initially missed my message but thankfully they saw the review & made things right. So customer service is great! Turns out I had a faulty feeder that wouldnāt dispense the food but this replacement feeder works well so far! The point about the collar tag being huge & the noise level still stands & I do wish it had a battery backup in case the power were to go out. Those are the only things keeping it from being 5 stars BUT itās still a good product & Iād say itās worth a buy. Hopefully it lasts a long time. It keeps my greedy boy out of his brotherās bowl so that gives me a lot of peace of mind for when Iām not home to play food guard. Lol*****************************************************I have two cats. One eats his food as he pleases so heāll eat a bit then leave & come back later. My other cat eats all his food at once then is ready to eat his brotherās food next lol so I got this feeder to keep him out of the other catās bowlā¦.that feature on the machine is great. I keep it on open mode and it closes when the cat wearing the tag comes near. However, my biggest problem with the machine is I CANāT GET IT TO DISPENSE ANY FOOD!! I followed the instructions & set it up correctly, at least thatās what I thoughtā¦but it keeps giving me an Error 4 message which according to the manual means thereās too much food in the bowl so food canāt be dispensed from the feeder. Unfortunately, I get this message no matter what I do. Iāve emptied the bowl. Iāve taken the feeder apart & put it back together. Iāve even taken the bowl out thinking maybe itās blocking a sensor? Nope. Nothing. The conveyer belt hasnāt worked once. It doesnāt move at all. Iām not sure what else to do. I didnāt get a chance to assemble the feeder until about a month after I got it (life happens but I shouldnāt have to worry about a product I bought brand new not working & not doing itās main function)ā¦so the return window has passed. FML. In the meantime, Iāve just been manually putting food in the bowl & letting it keep my younger kitty out. Iāve reached out to the customer support email, still havenāt heard anything back. The phone number just has an automated message telling you to email them. (-__- ok.) Very frustrating that I paid over $200 for something that only half works & then I canāt even get in contact with a human to discuss tech support. :/Another few annoying things is the fact that the tag for the collar is SO big. Way too big for a cat collar. The machine is also pretty loud but you kinda get used to it after a while. Especially if you have a mischievous cat like mine that seems to go near it every few minutes lolOverall, Iām not happy with this purchase & experience. Itād be great if I could get a replacement that actually works because right now this is one of the only ones on the market thatās like this & it would save me a lot of grief for when Iām away from home & worrying whether my other cat is able to eat enough food or not without the other one stealing it.

Works for a little while
I liked this feeder initially but am not happy with it as 1 of the 2 I purchased is not working consistently. I will clean it when it throws errors that say it needs cleaned (this is usually sooner than the normal time I would clean a food container which is in between bags of foods), I check for obstructions and I do all the things to see what could be wrong. This past time it started acting up I had to take the bottom off as food got stuck inside the machine and was likely the cause of the issue. I put the base plate back on without touching any electronics and it is working a little better. I forced it to run by changing the time 3 times and it did not consistently expel food. So I will likely be getting a different dispenser for her. Its also loud when it dispenses which honestly didn't bother me when I knew it was dispensing food.It is absolutely a pain to clean as there isn't an easy way to get food out of the cannister if it happens to get clogged or need cleaning in the middle of the bag of food. Also make sure that when you put in a bag that you do not put crumbs in... This will absolutely jam the machine. It does work well for keeping other cats out of the feeder but I will say I wish I could set a range so it wasn't so wide. It also seems to vary, because sometimes it takes a moment to notice a cat has come up. It does close before they get into it though. Also programming changes are a nightmare if your cats like to be around you when you are doing things. I have to take their collars off because you have to go through tag settings every time you change the time, the feeding times, the portions, or if you are leaving the bowl open or closed.
