This actually works well
Having read some of the reviews on here (just after I had placed the order!) I thought that this might be an item that wouldn't live up to the hype and would need returning. We were pleasantly surprised. The base has a suction pad, single lever action, which works very effectively on our marble worktop. Screw on the handle and away you go. We had no problems. Don't push the beans through, let the blades pull them in. and a couple of minutes later we had a dish of sliced runner beans - quite a lot of the beans missed the bowl, but that's just a matter of practice. Cleaning is pretty easy - just unscrew the handle and dip into washing up bowl - the only problem areas are that some of the beans can get caught in the corner of the blades. Conclusion - does what we wanted and seems to do it well.

Thoroughly useless gadget - you're better off with a sharp knife!
I wish I had read the other reviews before purchasing - this is easily the least useful kitchen gadget I have ever owned. I had hoped for similar results to an old one that we used to have when I was a kid, but was sorely disappointed. - The rotary blades don't cut through the bean every time, so you end up with one side of the bean coming out as a full strip and the rest in mashed up small pieces - unless you are slicing very small beans, the slots are too small to enable free-running. - unless you work very slowly, pushing the bean down after each slice (in which case the blade doesn't cut too well), you have irregular sized slices, mostly too thin. - the cut bits fly everywhere: it would need some sort of cover/cowl or a bag tied over the outlet to keep them from pinging all over the worktop. I could go on, but haven't the patience! Suffice to say, I have returned to the very old-fashioned method: a small sharp knife and chopping board. Hold the bean on its edge and slice across it diagonally away from you, it is much faster, cheaper and easier than this useless machine. I am pleased to say that Amazon accepted the return with no quibbles.

Cheep and cheerful
I've had this quite a while now and have deliberately not reviewed it until I had used it sufficiently. In the good old days my mum had a wonderful metal runner bean slicer that looked a lot like this so I was hoping that this would perform at least as well being that technology has moved on in 50 years. Although the slicer works I am rather disappointed with it. There are two slots to insert the beans as you turn the handle. Even the large slot is not really wide enough to accept a fully grown runner bean without slicing some of the knobbles off with a knife. Furthermore, the single big sucker on the base doesn't really give enough support and the whole thing wiggles as you turn the handle. Yes it's cheap and plasticy and it works, but high quality this is not. You pays your money and you takes your choice. In view of the low price many people will be happy with this, but for me; I will carry on looking for a strong four-suckered metal one like my mum used to have.

Bean Slicer
It's not as sturdy as I would have liked but it does the job. The suction mechanism is strong, but the weakness I think is the handle and without careful turning it might break; it has certainly bent on a number of occasions, but sprung back. However, for the price and overall I'd buy it again; it's certainly better than the "push through" type slicers, although you have to put up with shorter bean slices as a result. Personally, I prefer that as the slices cook more tenderly and its easier for freezing, but some people like spaghetti length bean slices.

Bean Slicer super effective!
Very pleased with the bean slicer. It is very efficient and also easy to clean. Practical and whatโs known as a good buy!

Save your money, don't even consider buying this pathetic, cheap plastic product
It is reasonably priced for an item used annually for short periods only. BUT suction pad only just works, breaking away easily from a smooth acrylic tray surface. Blades give very poor cutting performance, sometimes leaving large chunks of bean, not neat slices, which makes for poor presentation at the meal table. My existing slicer is well over 60 years old, blades still sharp and I shall continue to use this machine in preference to this poor modern? replacement which is now kept only for emergency use.

Complete rubbish - don't buy
I bought this in a fit of nostalgia and for ยฃ5.99 why not? Had to wait until now before we had some beans to slice. With the following results: 1. The suction pad mechanism broke the very first time I tried to use it 2. There is no overhang, so one can't slice directly into a saucepan but 3. The sliced beans fly everywhere except into the bowl (which you have to use) 4. Unlike the bean slicer from my childhood the beans need pressure to work and without a suction pad one is left needing three hands I am very sad.

Bean Slicer
Whilst people had problems with it not sticking to the surface, I found no problems with this at all. It may chuck beans all over the place but if you try turning it a bit slower, you will not have this problem either. It took me about 5 minutes to do enough for a complete weeks dinners so I have given it 5 stars, also because it is extremely easy to clean. A TRULY MARVELLOUS PRODUCT.

get this hard to find item while you still can
saw someone use this on a youtube cooking clip from the UK, couldn't find them anywhere in the US. they're the best for french cutting fresh green beans in a flash! finally resorted to buying a vintage metal one that needed a lot of work and was really expensive! one week later i saw that these were back in stock and went ahead and bought it. sure glad i did, because its very easy to use and clean in comparison. the suction cup is really strong, so it stays put too. it seems that this company doesn't keep many in stock at a time, so if they have it i would snatch it up. if they don't, just keep checking back. if i'd have realized there would be more in stock i wouldn't have bought that old one and saved some money.

Rubbish of the first order
This bean slicer is absolute rubbish. The suction cap does not work for longer than a second even on a polished glass surface and it cuts the bean into 1mm slices (but only with someone else holding the base. It went in the bin about 3 minutes after its trial
