Slower than a 10 years old technology especially with encrypted disks
I bought this dock as I needed to access external storage with my iMac M3 which only has Usb-c connectors and my good old Highpoint RS5212 only had a Thunderbolt 2 connection. I was quite happy with the product until I plugged in a 2TB SSD and I found it super slow compared to the 1TB. I performed some tests that revealed the 2TB being twice as slow in this product than on a 10 years old technology by testing it in both docks on 3 different Mac computers. Upon contacting Highpoint support, they told me that if the disk was performing the same in both dock on the very same configuration, then the disk was to be blamed. That answer was both insulting and making sense at the same time. So I ordered an Apple Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter and proceeded to repeat the tests only on the iMac M3 using the same Thunderbolt 4 port by turns and without any doubts, the old RS5212 via its adapter was twice as fast in reading and writing than the brand new RS3112D with a brand new 2TB SSD. I repeated the tests with a 1TB SSD and readings where a bit faster on the old RS5212 too, not by much but still. So I think, this is going to be a return since the Apple adapter is about the same price as this product and the old model performs way better than the new one! 2 different disk benchmark software where used with similar results.Edit 21 DEC 2023: After further investigation with both the dock manufacturer and Crucial technical support, it appeared that the sluggishness was induced by the encryption of the SSDs, if your disks are formatted with APFS encrypted, reads and writes are going to be way slower with this dock, if you format your drives with APFS, no problem. Highpoint is escalating the results to their USB Chips provider, Asmedia.

Amazing product
Recommend over cheap products. Need to have supporting motherboard from standard brands. Otherwise poor performance. But when paired with standards it outperforms cheap docking stations. Allows independent drive access. So if you buy and have trouble with this. Sure you need a supporting motherboard.
