Sax Teacher Review
It's hard to believe no one has reviewed this-- this book approaches basic jazz theory. It's great for different scales and arpeggios, one downside is everything is written in the key of C. So, if an etude is written in D maj, both F and C sharp are written in as accidentals, not a key signature. To me that's a setback because it doesn't help for key memorization. This book also includes etudes (studies)in different scale modes (ie Dorian, mixolydian). Not only do they show you theory, but they are a great precursor to studying horn solos for a young musician. That being said this book should be used with an instructor to further complete understanding of the material. Unless a student is good at music theory they will have trouble with some concepts. For students who want to get serious with their improvisation and technical skills, buy this book!

I am a bass player but I play the chords ...
I am a bass player but I play the chords on a keyboard and sing the two octave scales and appegios. Afterwards, I sing and play the scale and appegios on by bass very slow then increase i speed. Thirdly i play with a note drone and then a chord backing track from band in the box. After you are through with this book go to the never one(Beyond the Horn). Your hearing and playing will next be the same again.
