Raw stars show No Mercy, while SmackDown's roster enter Hell
This year's No Mercy event had such a stacked card that many were calling it WrestleMania calibre. The two main events were certainly WrestleMania worthy. But did they live up to the hefty billing? Many fans bought the Raw exclusive PPV to watch Brock Lesnar defend his WWE Universal Championship against Braun Strowman, and John Cena's first time ever clash with Roman Reigns. Did either deliver? In my opinion, one did, the other flopped terribly.Cena and Reigns had the fans in the palm of their hands throughout, and even though the selling and structure were off in places, they both did very well indeed. The main event, however, lacked drama, excitement, action and crowd participation. Lesnar's title defences have become increasingly disappointing. Strowman has had a few great bouts with Big Show this year, yet Lesnar seemed like he couldn't be bothered to turn in even a respectable level of commitment. The match of the night was unquestionably the Raw Tag Team title bout between the former Shield brothers and The Bar. It was electric, stirring stuff. It thrilled from start to finish. The women's Five Way was fun but could've done with a few more minutes added to it. Alexa Bliss continues to get better each time we see her.The show opener featuring The Miz defending the Intercontinental Championship against Jason Jordan was lively but lacked any real emotion. The crowd were all over Jordan from the start, choosing to side with the conceited champion instead. Jordan has to turn heel soon, then WWE may have a star on their hands. Miz, meanwhile, keeps going from strength to strength, and a programme with Finn Balor would be very interesting indeed. The Bray Wyatt and Finn Balor contest was average to say the least. I truly believe Bray Wyatt is incapable of putting on a good match. Balor was his usual electric self but didn't have much to work with here. He deserves better from the creative team. He's a main event player. Wyatt looks as lost as ever. Where he goes from here is anyone's guess.Cesaro's toughness has never been in doubt, but what he did at No Mercy went up and beyond the usual call of duty. To suffer that bad of a facial injury and carry on as normal is nothing short of tremendous bravery. He deserves huge credit for continuing. How he didn't even lose conciousness defies medical science. The Swiss Superman indeed. The match itself was incredible. It was even better than their SummerSlam barnstormer. This was tag team wrestling at its best. The Women's Fatal Five Way match was way too short for my liking. However, with thee short time allotted to them, the women did extremely well. It was action-packed throughout. Nia Jax impressed with her size and power, while the other four women used a lot of creative and inventive offence to keep the bout flowing. It was a shame that Sasha Banks wasn't showcased more, though. WWE are seriously dropping the ball with her. As for Alexa Bliss, she continues to shine and be the best performer on the female roster.Lots of fans didn't enjoy the “Battle of the Generations” between Roman Reigns and John Cena, but it absolutely delivered, in my opinion. You know what you are going to get out of a Roman Reigns and John Cena match. This was never going to be a Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels classic. This one was filled with lots of high-impact moves and realistic near-falls. Was it either man's best ever match? Of course not, but they gelled well together and the match came off great. Having said that, it was rather surprising to see Reigns kick out of four Attitude-Adjustments before defeating Cena with a single Spear. It seems as if WWE are doing their best to keep that move strong for a certain Beast Incarnate to kick out of.The bathroom break match of the night saw Enzo Amore capture the Cruiserweight Championship from Neville. Amore has very little talent in the ring. His only strength is his promo skills. The match was absolutely awful, as was expected. It was completely boring and devoid of any real athletic moves. Amore taking a page out of the legendary Eddie Guerrero's playbook was fun, though.During the main event, for a brief moment it looked as if Braun Strowman was going to replicate Goldberg's super quick victory over Brock Lesnar when he hit him with his Running Powerslam just a minute into the contest, but The Beast Incarnate kicked out. Strowman dominated Lesnar for 90% of the lethargic bout. This match certainly did not live up to the hype. It was slow and plodding, just like Lesnar's title defence against Samoa Joe in July. Having Strowman lose cleanly was a big mistake, in my opinion. He's the most over superstar on the roster today. WWE should have pulled the trigger on Strowman here. The time was right.Overall, the show was fine for what it was. The show started off rather brightly, before tailing off towards the end. Lesnar should be ashamed of his lack of effort here, he really let down Strowman. Cena and Reigns delivered what was expected of them, which was a high-impact match filled with high-spots and near-falls. The Raw Tag Team Championship match was spectacular. As for the rest of the card, it was pretty basic stuff. The Raw brand needs to do more to make their entire PPV must-see.Shane McMahon once again defied the laws of gravity in his pulsating and brutal Hell in a Cell match with heated rival Kevin Owens. However, the deciding factor in the bout was not either man’s willingness to risk their own life and limb for victory, but the surprise inclusion of Sami Zayn, who saved his former best friend from certain defeat by dragging Owens out of harm’s way as the Smackdown commissioner dove from the top of the structure before crashing through the announce table. Zayn then completed his shocking heel turn by dragging Owens on top of Shane for the three-count. Some will argue that Owens needed a convincing win here, but the match was so good that it’s hard to complain. Both men literally gave absolutely everything in the name of entertainment. Did both men go too far in some instances with the amount of danger they put themselves in? Perhaps, but they deserve huge respect for doing so. Owens’ willingness to take a massive bump off the structure was quite the sight. As for Shane, he is a maniac in the nicest sense. He will put his body through anything and jump off of anything without a moment’s hesitation. This was an incredible way to end the PPV. Was it the best Hell in a Cell match? No, but it has made my top five. It was that good. Credit to both men. I genuinely don’t know why fans always moan when their favourite wrestler is paired with Shane when the results are always so good. Shane is a better performer than anyone thinks he is and always manages to elevate his opponent. Don’t forget, he’s nearly 50 and has never actually trained to be a wrestler. That is quite incredible considering what he can do in the ring. Elsewhere on the card, Bobby Roode defeated Dolph Ziggler in his main roster PPV debut with a handful of tights. The match itself was fine, but hindered by Dolph’s character’s unwillingness to put on a great performance to excite the fans who he believes has turned on him. Jinder Mahal continued his abysmal title reign with yet another bore of a contest with Shinsuke Nakamura. If you’ve seen one Mahal bout you’ve seen them all. The man is incapable of putting on even a half decent match. Nakamura is now dead in the water. I don’t think anyone will want to see him in the title picture again anytime soon.Natalya managed to do the unthinkable and get a poor showing out of Charlotte. Why WWE keep putting their Smackdown titles on the most boring superstars is beyond me. It’s really dragging down the show, as shockingly low attendance figures show. The bout was fought at too slow of a pace, and the disqualification finish hindered it even further. Clearly, Charlotte is the next champion, and WWE wants to have her chase the gold, but they’ve chosen the wrong champion for her to do that against. The impromptu triple threat match for the United States Championship was well-paced and thoroughly enjoyable if not overly spectacular. Baron Corbin looked the best he’s done since arriving in WWE. AJ Styles reminded fans of how phenomenal he really is after a few months of shoddy performances. Tye Dillinger’s inclusion was an added bonus and he really showed his quality here. Corbin winning the title was expected. Randy Orton put away Rusev in a sleeper of a contest. This rivalry did nothing for either man, and I’m just glad it’s over. Orton hasn’t got out of second gear since his 2016 return. It looks as if WWE have decided Rusev is a mid-carder and nothing more, which is a shame. The show opener saw The New Day and The Usos deliver a sensational Hell in a Cell battle. It was filled with creative and emotional spots which took the fans on a rollercoaster ride. How these two teams keep managing to top their previous bouts really is incredible. They are outstanding, and truly the best tandems in WWE today. The New Day losing the titles again diluted it slightly, but I don’t want to criticize anything about this because it was that good.Overall, the two Hell in Cell matches delivered. The rest of the card in between was pretty average, to say the least. The Usos and The New Day put on an outstanding contest that will live long in the memory. Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon had a car crash of a Cell match, in the best way. It really is one of the best Cell bouts I’ve ever witnessed. These two contests were the selling point of the show, and no one had buyers remorse after purchasing it. The rest of the card was filler. Jinder Mahal is incapable of entertaining. Bobby Roode’s WWE PPV debut was fine for what it was. And Rusev was not helped by Orton refusing to change up his slow and methodical in-ring style. The event was hindered by many of the matches on the card which had too slow of a pace to them. Thankfully the two Cell matches were incredible, and sent the fans home happy.

GREAT STUFF,NOT TOO MANY FLAWS.
Ok,let's kick off the NO MERCY event. JASON JORDAN vs MIZ is surprisingly good,an ok opener for the i.c. title.FINN BALOR takes on BRAY WYATT again in a match to prove FINN doesn't need the demon image to beat him. It was ok but didn't excite me.DEAN AMBROSE and SETH ROLLINS take on CESARO and SHEAMUS in a tag title match and it's very impessive, even more so when you consider CESARO getting his teeth pushed into his gum in a nasty meating with the turnbuckle. Now ALEXA BLISS defends her belt against BAYLEY,EMMA,NIA JAX and SASH BANKS,it's not bad but a clear example of how wwe have no idea what to do with some wrestlers. Nia needs a break,Sasha is being buried,Bayley has been forgotten, only Alexa and Emma seem to be getting noticed right now.JOHN CENA takes on ROMAN REIGNS in a match that sounds intriguing and does work, very well in fact, well i liked it.ENZO goes for the cruiser title in a not great but does the job it was meant to type match. And the main event as BRAUN STROWMAN finally gets a big push as he puts his girth against BROCK LESNAR who defends his title against a guy that won't be a pushover. I expected a lot more from this,it had some nice moments but did not really deliver and the end came too soon for my liking. So another show great in places but far from perfect.Hell in a cell gets going with a cell match between NEW DAY and USOs. Those expecting another top title match with these won't be disappointed in my view,as the cell cage is used quite nicely and other items are brought into the chaos too,i was really impressed with this one.RANDY ORTON vs RUSEV in a much better encounter than at summerslam, but hardly anything to get excited about.AJ STYLE defnds his u.s. title against TAI DILLINGER and BARON CORBIN in a very good match with a surprising ending.CHARLOTTE vs NATALYA for the title in a pretty good match but hardly anything you must see,SHINSUKE NAKAMURA vs the champ JINDER MAHAL and but once again,it's just alright, disappointing and badly handled.BOBBY ROODE faces DOLH ZIGGLER in a match i didn't really care for but it was pretty good, did what it had to,SHANE McMAHON vs KEVIN OWENS in a cell macth that does its very best to outshine the first cell one.It is a lot of fun with a nice crashing end as expected even if it wasn't an important match,i still give it the tumbs up. So a better event than no mercy and just about gets this product 5 stars.
