I am very grateful to have come upon this book accidentally while looking for science fiction e-books. I didn’t believe the book could do what it claimed so just for fun I got a copy. Now, two hours later, I have gone through much of the book more like a perusal versus careful reading. but I must admit I continually needed to stop and carefully read what I meant to only skim because the ideas were so different from anything I have come upon before when trying to learn Japanese. I wondered, “ why didn’t I think of this last year when I started my study? I think I must’ve used 200 hours that I could have saved if I only had read this book a year ago.” So do yourself a favor and get a copy of this book. Buy buy a hardcopy so you can underline and take notes in the book. You need to get it- It’s worth it.

I just began my language learning adventure and so far have no complaints. They even give you free audio track downloads to use while doing lessons in the book. The only thing I've noticed and hope it's not something that happens too often is that page 7 has a chart that shows the hiragana stroke order and page 8 has a chart for the katakana stroke order. These charts also don't tell you what the characters are so you have to flip back to pages 1-3. However, page 9 has you practice writing the characters and shows the characters. Would be nice for future printed books to have both charts that also show which character they are on page 8 so you don't have to flip pages back and forth while practicing.

This textbook and workbook combined is one of the most beginner-friendly Japanese guides I've seen out there. The downloadable audio files bundled with this book also helped a lot in my studies. The lessons are laid out and structured very well. If you are planning on getting this book, make sure you already have a bit of knowledge/practice writing Hiragana and Katakana as this workbook only touches the "writing" part of Japanese language very slightly. That shouldn't be a problem as there are tons of Hiragana and Katakana writing lessons you can watch for free on youtube.

This book is incredibly well put together and easy to follow. I received it as a Christmas present and am now taking Japanese classes. It helped get a head start on the basics!

Wonderful book! Still trying to learn but this with the audiobook definitely helps! Physical book is also great quality!

I’ve tried so many Japanese language books. This one is the best.

This book is good to learn to speak in Japanese. It primarly focuses on learning words and numbers with only a few pages at the beginning teaching you the writing styles Hiragana and Katakana and later on it teaches you to read a bit, but you have to learn to write mostly on you own. Also there is no Kanji in the book.
