Pure Pop Mini Portable Digital DAB/FM Radio with Alarm and Kitchen Timer - Graphite

I'd been looking for a new DAB clock radio for a while, to replace my aging, and failing FM clock radio, but was very unimpressed with what I'd seen. Many seem very plasticky, are far too large to sit comfortably on a bedside table, as a result of including pointless iPhone docks.Saw the Pure POP in a shop and it immediately caught my eye. The mini is the smallest in the range, and whilst it's significantly taller than most traditional clock radios, it has a much smaller foot print. It doesn't feature bluetooth connectivity or have an iPhone dock, but these aren't issues for me - and frankly I'd wonder why you would need them in a bedside radio.It feels like a quality product - the build is very good, with sturdy white plastic that feels pleasant to the touch. There's no annoying plastic "squeaks". and button presses feel re-assuringly solid. It has a rigid grey gauze-fabric type covering around the lower two thirds of the case.It's a breeze to set up, and use, and the sound is good quality. It's got plenty in the tank when it comes to output power - I find a low volume setting is perfect for rousing me in the morning.The only issue for me is that the backlight on the LCD screen is too bright even at its lowest setting. Thankfully there is the option of turning the light off, when the device is in its default "standby" mode. A little tap on one of the buttons activating the light should you need to see the time in the dark - it's not a perfect solution but it's a reasonable compromise, although I'd like to see Pure release updated firmware that enables a lower display backlight setting.I'm very pleased with it, and I'd recommend.

Very good little radio that was easy to setup and works great. The sound is clear and it picks up stations easily. It is also very tactile and simple to use. You do need to extend the antenna which isn't obvious from the pictures and this can distract from the aesthetic if you want a small radio for a reason.

I purchased this product and was impressed how easy it was to use. I then noticed the reviews comparing this unit unfavourably to the Sony XDRV20DH. As I needed a second radio I purchased the Sony (at significantly higher price although it does include the rechargeable battery), and found that I agree that the Sony sound quality is noticeably better. From past experience I would have expected much better quality from Pure, but this unit is a definite disappointment. For years I have felt that DAB radios have been forced on the market, and there is really no justification for this, especially if the sound quality is compromised.

Bought this for my 92 year old mum as she's spending a lot of time in bed at the moment and wanted a radio just for the bedroom to keep her company. It took me a little while to get the autoscan right, but other than that it's perfect. It has a small footprint, so doesn't take up much space on her table; the 'square' shape makes it very stable and not easy to knock over; the large on/off/volume button on the top makes it very easy to control; the 5 preset buttons on the top make it very easy to select and change stations. The sound seems good to me, although I'm not an expert; reception is good, so we don't even have to have the aerial sticking up which makes it less likely to get knocked over. All in all, I was looking for something simple to operate for my mum, and this is perfect.

This is my second PURE Mini, a replacement for the first which stopped working. This second radio has just stopped working too. I use it as a bedside alarm, plugged in with the rechargeable battery option. I take the radio into the bathroom whilst I'm showering (NB it doesn't get wet, I'm not stupid!). It worked fine from May 2019 until yesterday (21 Feb 2020) but now the display will no longer light up while the radio is in standby mode, which makes it useless as a bedside alarm clock. I have tried a "reset" which didn't help and I have now lost the ability to store radio stations.

After just 2 months of use the on off buton doesn't work anymore...

Not exactly a hi-fi substitute, but if you just want a small radio for the kitchen or bedroom, this should be fine. Good design, clear sound, even if its small size is inevitably a limiting factor as far as room-filling capability is concerned. Stable, compact and unobtrusive.
