What is the difference between fermaid o, fermaid k, and go-ferm and which is more applicable to making hard cider?

Jon - that is an excellent question.

Short answer: if this is one of your first batches, go with Fermaid-K. Once you learn the process then you can move to Fermaid O and/or add Go-Ferm to your rehydration stage. We suggest looking in the online communities for how other hard cider brewers apply their Fermaid K.

Long answer: Fermaid and Go-Ferm are products meant for 2 different steps in the fermentation process. Go-Ferm is a yeast nutrient designed specifically for the rehydration stage, that is when you activate your dry yeast. It helps by providing essential nutrients so you get a full activation.

Fermaid (K and O) are yeast nutrients designed for the actual fermentation stage. As Go-Ferm, they are meant to make the fermentation more vigorous and decrease the chances that it gets stuck. Fermaid O is organic and contains no DAP, while Fermaid K contains some DAP (hence the lower price). All are urea free. Advance brewers will use both Go-Ferm and Fermaid to maximize their yields!
