Brilliant! Don't listen to the critics.
This got slated by the usual popular press critics and if you're looking for the next 'all action blockbuster sci-fi adventure movie', then this definitely isn't for you. If, however, you're looking for a nice, feel-good movie with subtle humour, a good storyline, and beautifully designed sets and amazing special effects that don't scream 'look how clever we are' and where you feel you are in the room with the characters, then this is one to watch.Without wanting to spoil it, my favourite character is the barman exquisitely played by Michael Sheen, who at first seems may lessen the loneliness but speaks volumes about the complexity of human nature that machines are likely never to match.Jennifer Lawrence has recently distanced herself from this film, seemingly bowing to pressure from the critics which I think is to her detriment, as all three main characters put in a fantastic performance. The only weak point is Lawrence Fishbourne's brief appearance with ropey acting and cheesy lines. This part of the film seems very much like a rush job, with no time to develop the character (or fishboune's performance). The last 3rd of the storyline in general does seem rushed, which is a shame, but then I guess they have to fit it into the 'blockbuster' timeslot. The usual movie nerds all shout about the holes in the plot, seemingly forgetting that the genre contains the word 'fiction' and the fact that interstellar space travel is in my opinion the biggest 'hole' in any sci-fi plot of you want to take that stance. If you accept the story is about two people and human nature and just happens to be set aboard a spaceship, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Pleasantly surprised...
I am a huge movie buff, but I'm normally quite critical of the movies I watch. I delayed seeing this at the cinema due to reviews I read that slated it... as such, I waited for the eventual drop in price.I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and I'm unsure how it received such poor reviews - don't get me wrong, it's not movie of the year, but it was a story that kept me fully entertained and wondering what would happen next. It also includes some stellar acting (as you would expect from Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt) and the visual effects are very impressive.

Loved this love story set in space
Loved this. I agree that the promo stuff was misleading. I expected some kind of end-to-end space-bound adventure, but I got something very different - a love story set in space - and I really enjoyed it. The space setting is vital to the premise of the love story, the unbearable choices, and the enormity of decisions they have to make. It stars two of the most watchable actors in the biz - Chris Pratt's endearing 'everyman' and Jennifer Lawrence's divinely beautiful, kickass role model. There are also cracking performances from Martin Sheen, the welcoming barman with whom the viewer is never quite at ease, and Lawrence Fishburne, who plays his 'plot device' role with gravitas. It's a great movie and a keeper, as I already enjoyed a second viewing, which can't be said of many allegedly 'worthier' films.

Thoroughly enjoyed with amazing picture.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie but this was not the reason I brought it. As someone has already written don't listen to the critics. I don't listen or read the views of any critic. How on earth does anyone know what I like. I am around the age of 55 and I think I know what I like by now. So I don't presume to know what you like. The reason I decided to review PASSENGERS was because of the 4K or even the Blu ray. I have quite a few 4k movies but the picture is absolutely beautiful. The only other movie that came close to the beautiful picture is Luc Besson's VALERIAN.I really enjoyed the movie and am pleased I brought it but the bonus is the staggering picture. If you cannot afford the 4K the blu ray is still a beautiful picture. But as I said " I am not a critic so I don't presume to know what you enjoy either 'Take care and stay safeDave

Stunning 4K disc
This movie will not be to everyones taste and it is slow going to begin with...but it does get better (honest)...But I'm reviewing the disc itself and not the movie.. I bought this film because of it's 4K abilities and has been described as being a Reference disc for 4K movies, and I could see why...they don't come much better then this...Passengers was shot digitally on the Arri Alexa 65 and the 4K transfer here was taken from a 4K digital intermediate of the movie, meaning home viewers get the "true" 4K experience (as opposed to an up-convert). and the film is presented in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio...The detail is trully amazing and every shot gives you immense depth to the picture...even the sound (what there is) has great steerage and you can hear every little detail and pin point it very accurately...As I said...it's not everyones cup of tea...but for the 4K experience this is a must..Cheers

Emotional roller coaster
Wow they really pulled this one out of the bag! I found myself compelled to watch and wanted more and more, I almost feel they could have added an extra hour to the movie it was so enthralling. The twit and turn of this poor passenger and the crew member, the emotion of which was a greater journey than the one the passengers had taken themselves.
