I had the cheaper sort of solid tip, no temperature control burner but was looking for a step up to produce commercial work. With this burner you have a box which sits on the desk and a separate burning pen which plugs into the box. This unit uses wire tips. It comes with one pre-made and there are several lengths of different gauge wires so you can make your own - lots of instructions available online on how to do it. The unit has an on/off switch at the back and a yellow LED indicator on the front to show when its switched on. There is also a a control device on the box so you can select from 0 to 10 for temperature. I find 5 to be very light burn and 8 to be very deep burn. Thats on wood - obviously burning leather would need lower settings. I would say this isn't an entry level burner due to the cost but I see it as a reasonably priced capable burner for those wishing to progress to more advanced work.

If you are serious about pyrography, this product is worth the price! I burn on wood and found that depending on the type of wood the heat settings work from 6 -10 on wood well. The heat settings have quite a lot of variation between them so you can put it on a setting of 7.5 etc. So it gives you loads of different shades. It heats up very quickly and the heat stays constant so you can have a nice even burn. I would buy this product again!

Using this to customise some chopping boards for friends. It’s a brilliant little machine, the only downfall is how hot the pen becomes. Not too hot too hold, but feels like the longer you use it the more uncomfortable it gets. Solid 9 out of 10, would be a ten if it just had a rubber grip to keep the heat off your hands.

Order update - this is a lovely pen to write with, equipment is solid and well made and easy to use. The extras e.g. nibs, wire and tracing paper were inside the instructions so initially l thought they hadn’t been included, fortunately they were. Given this pen is much easier to hold (more like a real pen) it can be controlled a lot easier and doesn’t get hot unlike cheaper models. Definitely recommended just need to practice now.

I bought a firewriter a few years ago and I love it. I have used it on multiple projects and it has been great. I loved it so much that I bought this one for my partners mother as she wanted to start pyrography. Unfortuntely the whole thing does not work. Initially the temperature control was fluctuating so much that you couldn't get a continuous burn, and after abot 5 minutes, the whole thing conked out. As it was a gift I bought in advance so my 30 days have run out, and now I can't get hold of anyone to make a return for a faulty item. As I said, my one was great and would recommend it for a amateur pyrographer, but I am not pleased with how this one does not work and I am unable to contact anyone. I hope this review will initiate contact from amazon/the seller.

Pyrography pen works well but very disappointed that it does not come with screw on the side clips for holding the pens as shown in the picture. This is the reason I selected this version so very frustrated.

We have already bought one but a different brand which doesn’t work so effectively as hoped for. So having used this brand at a craft workshop, hoping this will be better.
