Take care when using
I bought this to make holes in new-build quality soil in a lawn and then fill the holes with better soil.I used a 18v drill with hammer setting and low speed (number 1). It is vital to have the drill's extra grip handle attached, but even so you have to take care not to twist your wrist and stand clear of the grip. Fairly often the bit would catch on a stone and jam, sending the drill into a spin, it only spins through 90 degrees or so but enough to hit my calf and bruise it.The bit's rear weld separated but it is still usable. The end of the shaft sheared off in the chuck eventually but I just put the remaining black-painted part in and carried on.When the bit catches and jams on stones it quite often bends the shaft. I found it easy to bend it back to more or less straight while still in the drill chuck (stopped of course). It was worth the purchase and I will buy another but it would have been good if it was more sturdy to survive the weld-break, shearing and bending I described.

Rubbish
Not fit for purpose and does not touch my hard soil…….complete waste of money, don’t be fooled

A good quality drill
I purchased this for a heavy duty task of drilling over 100 deep holes in a raised bed, and it didn’t disappoint. Well worth the money.A word of warning. When using be careful and use a slow speed on your drill. Too high a speed could damage your wrist.

Robust build
Robust item, simple to use. Would probably not use in dry conditions

Good price and product, with limitations
The auger is designed to fit into an electric drill having a hexagonal top for the chuck to grip. As a side note, this ideally should be a mains powered drill or at least have a spare, charged battery to hand. The auger digs in very well and the ‘business end’ stands up to punishment well. That unfortunately cannot be said for the hexagonal end as this, in my case, quickly rounded making the augur unable to be driven and spinning in the chuck at quite low torque when for instance encountering damp clay soil or a small root. All this to say that, for the price, it has done its job, but don’t expect ‘industrial’ quality.

NOT SOLID STEEL. Bends on Use!
Pros;*Cheap*LongThe aim is to use it plunger style. In a bit, out, in a bit out and repeat. If you go in too far it can rip the drill right out of you hand and damage you in the process. Slow and steady is the way to go. I use a post hole digger for wider deeper holes, and a digging bar, which I prefer. But if you only need small hole for planting this is okay.Cons:*Cheap*Metal??. Not steel.Feels flimsy. It does work, but you have to be careful as it bends. I have purchased other which are much sturdier and feel more like the solid steel I was expecting with this one.*Took a while to come. I was about to complain when it arrived.Would I buy another one from this seller, probabaly not.

Perfect for bulb planting and no need to bend down
Bought for the wife who is constantly adding Bluebells and Snowdrops to our woodland garden and spends most of the time digging the bulbs in with a trowel on her knees. The length of this auger enables her to stand and drill multiple holes in a group very quickly and then simply drop the bulbs in and back-fill. It makes the job so much easier, quicker and more consistent. The only observation is that you need to ‘hold’ the drill-bit back to prevent it from simply drilling in too deeply without removing the soil. If you lift the drill up and down as you go this will ensure the hole is cleared of soil and not suddenly swallow the auger bit. It would also have been helpful if the blades had extended longer up the shaft to enable deeper holes for stakes but this is its secondary use as the increased ease for bulb planting is its forte. Well made with solid shaft unlike some other hollow versions and the diameter of the hole is perfect for dropping a bulb in and allowing your pinched fingers to press in the soil behind it. Not had it long enough to have encountered any issues apart from hitting the odd tree root and having to back out and move the spot over. Used with a an old corded drill and long extension lead as this drill has a side handle for steady control and a speed limiter on it so it could be set not to run away and bury itself more quickly. Good tool and well worth having in the shed. I’m no gardener but the wife would spend all day on the garden if she could and she really likes using it and has planted many bulbs since getting it.

works for really shallow holes not deeper ones
worked well for the first 6 inches then was not good after that . i was needing 18 inches deep hole for a rotary washing line . more a lightweight bit than industrial . needed a deeper auger to be fair .
