Awesome Book!
I bought this for my then four year old and he LOVES this book! Wonderful illustrations make words unnecessary in this sweet, satisfying picture book.

I love this book!
We bought this to "read" with my kids. But really, we enjoy looking at the beautiful illustrations. And the story is fun. Highly recommend for the family library.

Bucking the "Stratus" Quo
A witty, beautiful picture book with no text at all, Wiesner has once again created a wonderful book about the places imagination can take us. On a chilly, overcast day, a young boy goes to the top of Empire State Bldg on a class visit. The foggy, cloudy atmosphere disorients him until he finds a playful little cloud has taken his red cap, mittens, and scarf. He and the cloud begin to play, soon the cloud takes the boy up to Sector 7, the place where the clouds are made. The clouds in the factory are upset that the Cloud Bureaucracy assigns them what shapes they must take: Altostratus, Cirrus, Cumulonimbus, etc. So the boy takes out his artist pencil and helps design new shapes for the frustrated clouds that mimic creatures of that other wonderful domain, the ocean. Soon there are fish and octopus clouds. The bureaucrats that run the factory are shocked and angered by this. They take the boy to Sector 7's taxi station and instruct the little cloud who befriended the boy to take him back to the Empire State where his class teacher is in a bit of panic trying to find the "lost" boy. As he reunites with this class, the young artist is still "floating in the clouds". On the bus ride back to school, all the ocean creature clouds he designed begin to appear in the skies. At home that night, his aquarium gently lighting his room, the boy falls asleep in his cloud leaving the Sector 7 bureaucrats angry and confounded. An absolutely wonderful book about creativity, imagination, and bucking the status (stratus?) quo.

Least favorite
This is my least favorite book by the author. First, I did not like that the child left with a stranger while on a school field trip - I know that the stranger was a cloud and all but still its not the right message for kids. Secondly, the book lacked the wonder of his other books probably because even the cloud production center was run by humans not the clouds themselves. My son also least requested this book for a re-look.Overall, this is not a reading book so its great for having kids write their own text to go with the story images and thus practice story writing etc. If you need more of these wordless books in your library then pick this up, but if you are not using these books in a school setting, I would pick up one of his other book instead.

A Book for Generations
This was our family's favorite bedtime storybook hands down, which we read hundreds of times with increasingly imaginative storytelling input from our children. They have all left home, and now this book of beautiful illustrations sits in a box in our attic awaiting the next generation of enthralled listeners.

Anyone can read this, all will enjoy it.
There is really no reason for me to review this book with 30 other reviews already here. I will just state that I loved it. I "read" it to my 4 year old and he wanted to read it again right away. If you look at each picture carefully and discuss with a young child what is going on before you turn the page, they will love it. And if they are like my boy, they will then read it when they are alone. I went to see him that night up in his room and he wanted to read it to me. We sat there while he described each picture and the story in surprising detail. I really think this is a great book with fantastic illustrations and a wonderful story. The author is brilliant.

Illustrations were wonderful, however I needed a narrative to go with the Artist work, Our grandson just came out of a Montesorri School, and has started to read.........I wanted to help him identify new words with the sounds, using the art work and narrative, had to send it back.

Enhances creativity and imagination
What a lovely book! My husband and I perused it with my 3-year-old grandson, making up character names and story line as we went. (The story contains NO text.) The next morning, my grandson several times said how much he'd enjoyed the book.

One for imagination
I know other reviewers have probably said this and they are on the money - this book is great! The illustrations and story guide the reader but there is so much that you can add. Each time we read it I find more things for my 3-year-old to think about. It's great as she can 'read' by herself as it is the type of book that you get what you put in. She is beginning to describe the pictures, add her own meaning, which is good for language development. I liked this one (and Tuesday) so much that I went and bought the others Flotsam and Free Fall... Will be reviewing them after Christmas!

Astonishing
For those who know David Wiesner - It's a David's book, what more can I say.For those who doesn't know him yet — A brilliant combination of astonishing art illustration, and fantastic story, as always.
