1st book in "Promethea" - a classic series
Amazing graphics and story line in this "Promethea" series. I wanted the 3 volume hard cover version of "Absolute Promethea". Volumes 2 and 3 were not difficult to find in the oversize version which is well worth the money. I couldn't find volume 1 though so I got it in trade paperback edition, not so good and split into 2 volumes called book one and two. Comparing the 2 versions the Absolute series comes in a stunning slip cover, the art and graphics are top quality and it's a joy to hold and read. If you can, do save up for the Absolute Editions. However if you just want to read a great story and don't mind the book quality get these trade paperbacks.

Thought-provoking,funny and expertly crafted
Doesn't really do it justice saying things like thought provoking, but this gently tips the reader towards unknown regions of thought and cowers us with plausable cosmic and spiritual vistas. As you flick through it does look like it may be hard to get into, but it is funny, humane and easy to follow. So well put-together. Alan Moore has you dazzled by the lightness, simplicity and resonance of the writing, a blizzard of masterstrokes showing us just what the comic format is capable of.

Incredible book. Both art and story work together beautifully. Great condition for paid price.
This book takes you on a journey, not like any story I've read from Indie comics. It really throws you and forces you to re-read and re-look at what's in front of you time and time again. I've never seen a book panel it's pages so masterfully or a story fill itself with the little details of folklore and mythology. Alan Moore really does do a master class of myths and legends through the ages all with the use of this one character and her history. For anyone who loves colourful artwork and stories from the past in general, this is a must read and I will definately be looking to complete the collection of the following volumes.

Welcome to Idea Space
This first book is so well written and illustrated that, for the money you're paying, it's almost a steal. It works well if you want to enjoy it at face value. However, there's a potency to the story, like an electric current that underpins the tale of Sophie Bangs. As she progresses, you can't help but feel that her revelation is your revelation. At the heart of it lies a very deep and long train of thought.I look forward to reading the remainder.

Hard work
This comment is about books 1-5 in general.I am interested in spirituality and alternative religions, but this series is hard, hard work. Don't get me wrong, I admire the very strong artwork and I appreciate the resplendently feminine/feminist storyline, but I really felt like I was wading through this one. It's not bad, it's just deep to the point where I wasn't so much swimming in the story as being pulled under, choking. If you're interested in magic and kabbalah (amongst many other themes) go for it, you'll be blinded by the erudition and fascinating concepts. If you're looking to be wrapped up in a rip-roaring story, stay away. It's the opposite of light entertainment.

Compelling
The art and storytelling bring a really compelling narrative. Rooted in story reality and fantasy with Alan Moore’s eye for the grand juxtaposition.

Phenomenal! Just read it!
This series is absolutely incredible! I feel like mere words don't do it justice. The story, writing, and artwork are all unbelievably imaginative and fascinating. Like nothing else I've ever read, graphic novel or otherwise. This is really a must-read!

Imagination running wild
I find Moore's writing incredibly thought provoking and akin to Gaiman's sense of wonder and intrigue.I intended to read the remaining Promethea books on my Kindle, but I have decided now to purchase the hardcovers and add them to my collection as the artwork by J. H. Williams III and Mick Gray is incredible.Definitely recommend to comic fans and fans of fantasy alike!

Imagination, Cups, and Swords.
I decided to start reading the Promethea series after reading about Alan Moore's different projects over his career. The Promethea series serves the dual purpose of being an entertaining story while also teaching occult principles. In this first volume the topics discussed are imagination and visualization, especially upon mythical characters (such as Promethea) to manifest them from their realm (the Immateria) into the physical realm, as well as the idea of writing these ideas down to further focus them. Two suits of the Tarot are also introduced via different incarnations of the Promethea character throughout history: the Cups (love and compassion), and Swords (reason).Very well written, with beautiful art.

superbe!
