As soon as the Moonshan Bag Closer had been delivered, I put the machine to use sewing closed a few half full nylon bags of corn, wheat, oats, and barley I often use in my daily chores to feed the livestock. Having quite a bit of experience from working as a miller a number of years, I used a bag closer daily for batches we mixed and bagged. The Moonshan Bag Closer feels and operates very similar to the industrial Fischbein closers we had on hand. As mentioned the weight of the Moonshan Bag Closer is about the same as the model I used at the mill and operates at about the same sewing speed. Once set up properly, these "sewers" as we called them, operate very efficiently. Since I am retired and no longer a professional miller, I took the Moonshan Bag Closer to my local CoOp which I have a personal relationship with, and each of the millers there were as impressed as I am with the smooth operation of this sewer. I let each of them give it a try. A typical large batch of something like horse feed produces roughly 40+ fifty pound bags of feed. Out of those 40+ bags, you'll get maybe one or two bags that sew closed kind of awry and need a second pass of the sewer to fully seal correctly. And that is usually caused because while sewing the bag closed, you also have to attach a feed tag that gets sewn on to the bag as well. Kind of an art to it if you haven't tried it before. I won't go into specific details of the operation or maintenance of the Moonshan Bag Closer, but I will say that nearly all sewers need a certain amount of TLC to keep them operating in top form. Keeping the sewer oiled at all times is imperative for smooth operation and will lead to less downtime and a machine that needs less maintenance overall. The Moonshan Bag Closer seems to check all the boxes in those regards, and again, I am basing my comparisons from an industrial bag closer I used quite often on the job. The instruction manual is adequate enough to get most people through any troubleshooting needs. The ultimate thing I like about the Moonshan Bag Closer is the price! When you start shopping for sewers like these, you usually can expect to pay a small fortune in the hundreds of dollars if not more. It sounds kind of odd, but I kind of always wanted to have my own sewer because they are so handy and obviously have many other useful applications beyond feedbags. The Moonshan Bag Closer has now made it possible for me to have my own sewer AND keep the half or partially open bags I have sitting around closed when not being used. And not only for feed purposes, but to also close up the empty feed bags I use from time to time to recycle cans and bottles. I think anyone who has a need for a bag closer, sewer, whatever you want to call it, is going to love the Moonshan Bag Closer right off the bat not only for the price value, but for the way it worked right out of the box. You certainly can't beat that because these are delicate machines that will sew their heart. I would recommend the Moonshan Bag Closer to anyone who has a need for at the very least, sewing bags shut. I can't attest to using the Moonshan Bag Closer on leather or other materials and their associated projects, but I'm sure at some point I will. I think that anyone owning/operating a feed mill, or considering doing so would find the Moonshan Bag Closer a good piece of equipment to get started with and not break the budget. Five stars!
