Q: Does the CO2 tank need to have a siphon tube installed to be used with this adapter, or can a standard tank be used?

If your co2 tank without siphon tube, the pressure will be lower, then it need upside down the co2 tank .When refilling,it is important that the pressure in the first few seconds is very low, the handwheel is therefore open at the beginning only slightly and very slowly until some gas flows through. Please conform the soda co2 cylinder should be empty before refill.Pre cooled cartridges will get quite full.

Q: Can you use a 35lbs co2 tank with this? Or only 20?

Any tank that has a standard CGA 320 valve. Your large tank also needs to have a syphon tube or be turned upside down to get the liquid CO2 out.
