Why are they labeled ESS bones swiss? I have never heard of ESS before

Sorry about this but "608 mm" comes out to about 2 feet - Bones Reds come in either 7 mm ID or 8 mm ID. I believe you mean to say these are 8 mm ID.

Well - if you really want the nittythe 3 digit number is a common designation/model number for bearing. Since it starts with a digit it describes bearing using metric measurements.The first digit identifies the style of bearing 6 - "deep grove" - this means the bearing will take thrust both radially and axially all by itself and doesn't really care which. This is the most common style for skate/skateboard applications.The next digit describes the kind of usage the bearing is designed for. 0 - "extra light" duty 2 - "light" dutyThe next digit is the ID in mm. The most common IDs for skate/skateboard applications are 7 - 7 mm 8 - 8 mmThis number may be followed by a letter or two describing the seals or shields. It is commonly omitted except when ordering. "Z" indicates 1 shield, "ZZ" indicates 2.Bones Bearing usually have only one shield.Skate bearings are usually 608 or 627. The same for skateboards but skateboarders are experimenting with some different constructions.
