This pencil does not get 5 stars....it gets 10!
I am a fountain pen collector and user. I am also an artist. So for those two reasons combined I was interested in the Pentel Kerry. I bought one - a pink one which I carry in my pocket book. Then I bought the red .O5mm and put 4B lead in it. It is amazing. It makes writing so enjoyable! I have almost stopped using my fountain pens because all I want to write with are these pencils. Recently I added a black .07mm pencil and I added 3B lead. I use them in my journal and they make my illegible handwriting look not only readable but attractive!I also like to do Sukoku puzzles and these pencils are the perfect match for that hobby. I'm using a book, currently, made of newsprint and very poor quality paper. However these pencils write smoothly and legibly even on that! ...Dark enough to be easily read (which would not be true of an HB lead). A couple of things to keep in mind: 1) you must post the cap of the pencil in order to be able to advance the lead. 2) The eraser is in the cap and you must be very careful not to lose the cover to it. If you DO lose it, I suggest you NOT use the eraser from the pencil as you will need something there against which you must press to advance the lead. I bought a Tombow Mono Zero Elastomer Eraser, which is a small pen like thing which you click (as you would a mechanical pencil) and extrude a top quality VERY SMALL AND PRECISE eraser from the tip. you can easily buy refills for this eraser and it does come with one or two refills. This eraser is a key part of my enjoyment of the Kerry pencil.Sadly, the eraser refills for these pencils are no longer being marketed. There are others you can adapt by trimming them a bit shorter with a razor or Xacto knife. Or you can, as I do, rely on the Mono Zero for your erasings. This is a great pencil...it is not only the only brand of mechanical pencil to come with a cap (thus making it easy to carry in your pocket without fear of the sharp nose that other pencils have which can tear pockets or get broken in purses) ...it is also the only pencil made in real metal....not plastic. This pencil does not get 5 stars....it gets 10!

One of the best pocket friendly mechanical pencils
This is a favorite design - I now have 3 in different colors and lead sizes. The cap and the shorter length makes it easier to pocket carry than many drafting pens. The lead deployment is flawless on both the 0.5 and 0.7 mm models. The 0.5 mm works well for crossword puzzles. Pentel mechanical pencils are hard to fault and have remained consistent quality over the decades.

My favorite mechanical pencil.
I love my Kerry pencils, I have a few that I keep in my bag for work and a couple at home. These are built very well and are durable. These fit my hand well. I recommend these for anyone looking for a quality pencil that will not break the bank. I have used much more expensive pencils and nothing beats these!

LOVE this pencil
i’m a mechanical pencil "enthusiast' lol.i buy practically every one i come across looking for a few things.1) portability i.e., being able to keep it in my pocket and not have it either stab me in the thigh, or break in half.2) comfort/ergonomics. weight and balance is important. when you write as much as i do hand fatigue becomes an actual issue.3) build quality. i want to know that this thing, which to be fair is rather expensive for 1 pencil, is going to be able to be fixed should the collet get jammed.well, it checks all of those boxes!the portability issue is solved by the clever design. and bonus, when it's in writing mode the eraser actually gets pushed up, unlike a lot of other pencils where the eraser is constantly getting pushed down into the sleeve.it's SUPER comfortable in hand and out of all of my pencils it's by far the most ergonomic.the build quality is great and only once has the collet jammed on me, which was easy to remedy. i just carefully took it apart completely, cleaned everything, and boom.. back in business.also pro tip: keep the cap on the pocket clip when you're using it and you *probably* won't lose it. that said, other reviewers have said the pencil doesn't work without the cap, which is completely false, it just looks nicer in your pocket with it onedit: almost a year later and still going strong.. i actually purchased another one just in case

Very elegant and stylish.
This was one of the most stylish and elegant mechanical pencils that I could find. Bought a few in different colors and gave as gifts. The cap covers the sharp point so that pockets are not damaged. Includes built in eraser. Ergonomic with a top button to advance the lead. Well-priced. The color finishing was slightly uneven, but it was mostly noticeable in the olive color pencil. But this was not at all a deal breaker and would purchase again.

Best Overall Mechanical Pencil You Can Get
In my opinion, the Pentel Sharp Kerry mechanical pencil is the best overall mechanical pencil you can find anywhere, especially for the price. The cap, thickness and writing experience are uniquely excellent. This is my go-to mechanical pencil whenever I need a new one.

Nice feel and strong thin lead
I am a bookkeeper and constantly need to write notes in small spaces on spreadsheets and bank statements. I was nervous about going down to a .5 lead, that it may break easily or be difficult to read, but it is working wonderfully. The pencil has a smooth click-advance motion. It feels like an all metal jacket even though it is described with a metal and plastic composition, and the small grip area does what it is supposed to do. I also love its elegant styling.
