Sea Of Galilee
G**.
An engaging, gentle and touching read. Recommended.
This is an intriguing work that deserves a wide audience. Fiction founded on fact, it is engagingly written, willing the author along through its perspective on events so well known and yet so little known. It is a moving work, the friendship between Pontius and Jesus touchingly recounted: and the introduction of Biblical characters is achieved fetchingly yet avoids lazy stereotyping in its portrayal of the fiercely loyal Simon, the serpent Caiphus and the mistrustful Mary among others. The portrayal of Jesus is, in a way, quite remarkable, expressing his humanity and divinity in a manner I found highly convincing. It doesn't get five stars because it could use a tighter edit than it has and because the sea on the cover doesn't look to me like the Sea of Galilee! But it is pacey, thought provoking, moving and knowing (the authors research into first century Palestine is very apparent but not in a showy way). This is great value reading.
